This case has been blown out of proportion of what actually occurred. The effects of the law not being properly thought out has lead to average people interpreting the law as the see fit, and has inadvertently caused these kinds of incidents, and the harm to social harmony. The legal system and legislature needs to examine the law and introduce an amendment to add degrees of offense; i.e. hate crime laws and disturbing the peace laws, for these kinds of cases that aren't exactly blasphemy. we should start with defining blasphemy; the act or offense of speaking sacrilegiously about God or sacred things; profane talk. Its the government abdicating its responsibility, which is why a group formed to take up where they see fit. The woman's actions were speaking in a callous dismissive tone in regard to the Prophet PBUH, after a Muslim woman spoke to the accused in a dismissive manner about her religion.
“And insult not those whom they (disbelievers) worship besides Allah, lest they insult Allah wrongfully without knowledge” [al-An‘aam 6:108]

Degrees of offense or hate speech laws need to be enacted to not just jump straight to a death penalty.
This woman's case is actually about prejudice (the cup sharing issue) and calling the sharing of the cup haram. I am no scholar, and this is where we need the advice of our scholars. If not stopped and examined through proper Islamic Teachings, a similar Shia/Sunni discrimination could grow out of this, or similar accusations on Hindus and Sikhs, or on those trying to be better Muslim versus those already more educated on the faith, or ethnic prejudice can grow out of this, Pasthun vs. Sindhi or Punjabi or Seraki, etc.
Pakistan should seek the help of a scholar like Dr. Zakir Naik to defuse this situation, and point out what would be an appropriate Islamic position on the case, based on the Quran and Hadith. The Prime Minister could come on TV to address the nation on the case with the support of religious scholars teaching all of us what is the proper course when dealing with this. Helping to lay out what is a fair understand of Islamic teaching in regards to this issue.
PTI is suppose to be a party to bring INSAF. They shouldn't run from this issue, nor be dictated to from abroad to just let the woman go just because they say so. Rather, the Prime Minister needs to address the issue head on.
