What's new

Pakistanis are lazy finds Stanford University

It would be worse
The slavery will come into existence. We know how they used to treat black slaves . We've read it , View attachment 411364
. Saudi should work for themselves rather than getting labour or slaves from other poor countries .

You know ,we know that rich Arabs in Saudi wont do labour work .
Current demographic structure in these regions enables them to do good bargain.
I have heard that BDis have Visa ban in GCC because of huge influx .
Similarily remittance sourcea lso plays a big part in this region.
Pak Govt need remittance money to keep the budget balanced .Similar the case of BD .In India, the only Southern state Kerala much depend in them .

Yup we all have heard about piracy and human trafficking of ancient Arabs

. .
Not me my friend. I see the poor working like animals in Pakistan mostly for subsistence wage and without any safety gear when working in dangerous environments.
Study was limited to the smartphone-carrying population.

.
They can't do that since it won't be economical decision only...This will change a lot on geo-politics if only Pakistanis are to be replaced...

Troll ? Or do hold some facts to put sense in your emotional words ? Dubai does not have labor from Asia ? should i laugh or cry :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:....
Why would a pakistani wishes to destroy GCC economy or make arabs look like fool ? Do you have any argument here ?

Dude .It is not about geopolitics.

It is true that number of people walking on the streets, in the business and commercial districts of Japan and China is huge and this this one of the reason for them being so healthy...hardly a pot bellied Japanese and Chinese visible. Walking is one of the best exercise to relive stress as well.

-The reason is more usage of public transport in these developed cities and hence that entails walking going from one station to another, going from bus stop to offices and place of work.

-Better pedestrianized areas like walkways and footpaths, in many areas footpaths are wider than the roads and with many all pedestrianized zone with no vehicular traffic allowed.

-This is all missing in Pakistan urban areas. BTW check the rush of people where this walkway facility is available in Pakistan and their presence, shows if the facility is available people in Pakistan prefers to walk.

Here we have to arrange annual walk, to encourage people...

What an utter crap!
We are the nation of 240 million people where hardly 30 million unique smart phone users from which approximately 70% have internet facility and even from those many may not connected for continuous. What a c#U^!a and sluggish study they made. The study itself is a flawed design.

It just cant shyttier than that coupled with some responses making sweeping generalizing statements on pakistani middle class such as in this post:
https://defence.pk/pdf/threads/paki...tanford-university.506548/page-2#post-9662221

I mean i am sorry but the last part of his post is so stupid that i dont even want to quote the guy. It is as if it is a fun practice for some people to come and mindlessly bash everything Pakistani. Some people get cheap kicks in talking negative on pakistan.

There are so many parameters required to be taken into account to decide who is lazy or not.
Here one major parameter is number of steps taken.
Imean how taking less number of steps makes a nation lazy?
A person might be of healthy weight, goes to work , adds to economy, gets his work done on time. How on earth number of steps would decide he is lazy?

Coming to cellphone collected data:
1.) majority population dont have smart phones.
2.) Female population have less number of mobiles compared to male population, specially in low income households men carry mobile, women don't
3.) Pakistans 65 pc population is rural areas based and despite being able to afford those many villagers keep basic phones for the ease in its use.
4.) Our womenfolk who stay at home do tonnes of household work and walk around the house quite a lot which they obvsly wont do carrying a mobile with them.
5.) the guy whose post link i added above from prev page made a stupid generalization that middle class people keep servents and make them do all household chore hence they are lazy? Middle class households in pakistan cant afford maids, mid-middle and upper middle class keep part time maids who just come for 3-4 hours at max a day.
In middle class families men even when they are jobless , or have rested enough after being back from work , do not assist women in housework , which means our women have to work almost all day , so if you get a bit of domestic help what is the harm in it.

Even if you have dosmetic help who do all housework throughout the day how it makes any man or woman lazy? As long as one is studying or working , giving back to their country and not sitting online 24 hours stalking flirting chasing girls and living as a burden on ur family , how does he become lazy.
just because a crass foreign compiled study calls you that, you have to bow your head in affirmation as their obedient slave.

Pakistanis defo suck at punctuality but not lazy.

Do you live in the world's laziest country?

US scientists have amassed "planetary-scale" data from people's smartphones to see how active we really are.

The Stanford University analysis of 68 million days' worth of minute-by-minute data showed the average number of daily steps was 4,961.

Hong Kong was top averaging 6,880 a day, while Indonesia was bottom of the rankings with just 3,513.

But the findings also uncovered intriguing details that could help tackle obesity.

Most smartphones have a built-in accelerometer that can record steps and the researchers used anonymous data from more than 700,000 people who used the Argus activity monitoring app.

Scott Delp, a professor of bioengineering and one of the researchers, said: "The study is 1,000 times larger than any previous study on human movement.

"There have been wonderful health surveys done, but our new study provides data from more countries, many more subjects, and tracks people's activity on an ongoing basis.

"This opens the door to new ways of doing science at a much larger scale than we have been able to do before."

Activity inequality
The findings have been published in the journal Nature and the study authors say the results give important insights for improving people's health.

The average number of steps in a country appears to be less important for obesity levels, for example.

The key ingredient was "activity inequality" - it's like wealth inequality, except instead of the difference between rich and poor, it's the difference between the fittest and laziest.

The bigger the activity inequality, the higher the rates of obesity.

Tim Althoff, one of the researchers, said: "For instance, Sweden had one of the smallest gaps between activity rich and activity poor... it also had one of the lowest rates of obesity."

The United States and Mexico both have similar average steps, but the US has higher activity inequality and obesity levels.

Global sleeping patterns revealed by app data

Has wearable tech had its day?

Is that fitness tracker you're using a waste of money?

The researchers were surprised that activity inequality was largely driven by differences between men and women.

In countries like Japan - with low obesity and low inequality - men and women exercised to similar degrees.

But in countries with high inequality, like the US and Saudi Arabia, it was women spending less time being active.

Jure Leskovec, also part of the research team, said: "When activity inequality is greatest, women's activity is reduced much more dramatically than men's activity, and thus the negative connections to obesity can affect women more greatly."

The Stanford team say the findings help explain global patterns of obesity and give new ideas for tackling it.

For example, they rated 69 US cities for how easy they were to get about on foot.

The smartphone data showed that cities like New York and San Francisco were pedestrian friendly and had "high walkability".

Whereas you really need a car to get around "low walkability" cities including Houston and Memphis.

Unsurprisingly, people walked more in places where it was easier to walk.

The researchers say this could help design town and cities that promote greater physical activity.

These lazy Stanford University people didn't visit Pakistan and talking shit. Even if they visited Dubai then they come to know that Pakistani labour is highest paid labour among all and that is because of their output per day. Also using smartphone didn't show output per day. Bullshit article

.
Only lazy people who eat too much and don't do anything are fat with bellies which is true anywhere in the world. In Pakistan shopkeeper will be fat while labourers lean and fit usually. Overall I would say only minority of people in Pakistan fat as most are poor labourers.

I wonder which apps they used to accumulate the data. The Samsung app I use shows an average of 6000 plus steps daily in my hospital. If you use exercise apps most people who download apps for things are the laziest of the laziest who want to feel good.

.
India or Pakistan doesn't have laid out footpaths to walk around streets without fear. South Asian countries follow 'might is right' philosophy w.r.t traffic rules. You don't want be puny pedestrian listening to all the snares in the traffic. Hence the low footfall in cities in my opinion.

Bhai dukan daars nature of job is to sit all day. Just because one does not walk a lot why he becomes lazy? As long as he works hard and makes money ,supports family , adds to economy.
Plus pakistan is an agriculutral economy with 60 pc rural population , how pakistanis can be lazy?

Generally form health perspective if you are in the habit of walking a lot in younger years than in old age you would still be able to walk long distances and will remain active. Saw my grandparents like that just cause they used to walk a lot in their youths
