Technology espionage, although very common is not exactly well publicized. The fact that they chose to publicize this and the perpetrator's origin, is quite interesting.

Now people !! Firstly the man has been caught on the SUSPICION of espionage. Unfortunately Industrial espionage has become a common theme for all developing countries as they try and increase their knowledge base without increasing their research base(which I dare to say is a very expensive way of doing things). Let us just wait for a few weeks till more information comes out. It is unfortunately an increasingly apparent fact of life in the west that everything to do with Pakista and Islam is being watched with extreme caution. It is multivariate in its origin but mostly due to paranoia. However IF this man is caught he will be punished according to the laws of the nation and once someone from the german side gets caught doing something fishy, he will be quietly exchanged for him(that is if the Government is responsible for this in the first place). Most likely the guy is just trying to increase his knowledge base and has come on the radar of the security of the firm.

No, India did not steal any nuclear technology from Canada. India used a Canadian reactor to produce fissile material for its first nuclear test. That was a violation of terms under which Canada had sold the reactor to India, since it was only sold for civilian energy purpose. Canada was (rightly) outraged at India for that.

So yes, India did an illegal act of violating the terms of use of a civilian reactor. That does NOT mean that India's nuclear technology was stolen from Canada. Canada did not have a military nuclear program, for us to steal from them. So please do not throw references around without understanding the issue.

I only write this to make a factual correction. Otherwise I agree with @araz, let us please stick to the topic, which has nothing to do with India.

On topic: Espionage could be for several purposes. The aim may not be to study the technology and duplicate it in Pakistan. Pakistan has other reasons to learn classified details of the surveillance technology that goes into Israeli drones, because guess who is the biggest customer of Israeli drones?

A German magazine has said the case involves a firm that did research on reconnaissance drones made by Israel and used by the German army in Afghanistan.

"The case is amazing," Focus magazine quoted one of the investigators as saying. German authorities declined to name the firm.

The man, identified only as Umar R., was arrested in the northern city of Bremen on Wednesday and worked as a student assistant in a research plant, the prosecutor's statement said.

"He is suspected of working for a Pakistani intelligence service since the end of at least October 2012," the statement said, adding he had tried to obtain high-tech information of "military use" for his bosses.

Focus reported the man had worked for a company involved in research on reconnaissance drones, and had obtained secret studies about the steering and navigation of such drones.

Focus said the firm in question researched Israeli drones used by the German army in Afghanistan and the man, who has relations working for Pakistan's secret service and military, had procured the technical knowledge with the aim of making drones crash. So let me get this straight he was working as student assistance(no high security clearness or clearance to sensitive areas). wanted to obtain about the steering and navigation of such drones .which he can pass to his bosses (they no exactly the day he started working for ISI)and he did get the Know how and only wanted to use it to crash the drones.

About the first part - you are wrong, Nehru did ask USA to intervene. I can't make it any plainer then that.
