AL-Khalid Tank
The Al Khalid is a joint Pakistani-Chinese main battle tank armed with a 125 mm main gun and equipped with composite and explosive reactive armor. The tank was developed in the 1990;s, and was produced from 2001 on-wards.
The 125 mm smooth-bore gun is a Pakistani-made gun similar to a number of Ex-Soviet and Chinese designs, capable of firing a variety of types of ammunition, including APDS and HEAT. The gun is capable of anti-tank missiles such as the Russian AT-11.
The 9M119M Refleks, NATO designation AT-10 "Sniper" is an anti-tank missile designed to be fired from 125 mm guns of Soviet-built tanks. The "Sniper" has a range of 5-6 kilometers and a tandem charge warhead.
The Al Khalid's armor consists of composite armor, presumably similar to the Merkava's as well as explosive reactive armor. The tank also has a laser detection system that can detect laser designators targeting the vehicle and release smokescreens and inform the crew of the direction of the designator.

AL-Zarrar Tank
Al-Zarrar is the main battle tank (MBT) of the Pakistani Army, developed and produced by Pakistan's Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT). The Al-Zarrar tank was developed by modernising and rebuilding the obsolete Chinese Type 59 tank. The tank weighs 40 tons and can accommodate a crew of four.
The Al-Zarrar development programme began in 1990. Pakistan is reported to have ordered 400 Al-Zarrar tanks in total and the first batch of 80 tanks was delivered to the army in February 2004.
The Type 59 MBT was in use by the Pakistan Armoured Corps for more than 30 years. The upgrade and rebuilding of the T-59 to Al-Zarrar was considered to be economical against replacement of the large fleet in the Pakistani Army with modern MBTs.
The first phase of the upgrade programme was completed in 1997 and the second phase began in 1998.
In the second phase, HIT rebuilt a tank by modifying 50 features of the old T-59. It incorporated some of the HIT's systems, originally developed for the Al-Khalid MBT.
HIT developed three prototypes of the Al-Zarrar and several technical and operational trials were conducted. Production of the selected version of the tank began in 2003. Future upgrades of the third phase Al-Zarrar development programme are also planned to keep it compatible with modern tanks. HIT also aims to upgrade the T-54 and T-55 to Al-Zarrar standards.

T-80UD
The T-80UD is a variant of the T-80U main battle tank, fitted with a diesel engine in place of the high performance gas turbine. The original T-80 with a gas turbine was produced since 1976. The T-80UD with a more conventional diesel engine was introduced in 1985 and entered service with the Soviet Army in 1987. Design of the T-80UD is similar to the T-80U except the power-plant.
Development of this MBT commenced back in the mid 1970s. Production of the T-80UD commenced in Ukraine in 1987. About 500-800 of these MBTs were built. It was planned as the main MBT of the Soviet Army. However with the collapse of the Soviet Union its production ceased in 1991. These tanks are currently in service with Russia and Ukraine. A number of Ukrainian T-80UDs were exported to Pakistan in the late 1990's.
Armor protection of the T-80UD includes composite armor with built-in explosive reactive armor blocks. Vehicle is fitted with an NBC protection and automatic fire suppression systems.
The T-80UD is armed with a fully-stabilized 125-mm smooth-bore gun, fitted with a carousel-type auto-loader. It also fires 9M119 Refleks (AT-11 Sniper) laser-guided anti-tank missiles in the same manner as ordinary projectiles. Missiles have a maximum range of 5 km and can also aim low-flying helicopters. A total of 45 rounds are carried, including APFSDS, HEAT and HE-FRAG. 28 rounds are stored in the auto-loader. Remaining ammunition is stored inside the hukk. Effective range of fire with APFSDS round is 2 000-3 000 m day and 2 000-2 600 at night. Armor penetration is about 590 - 630 mm at 2 000 m range.
