Death anniversary of Inayat Hussain Bhatti ; Greatest playback singer, TV presenter, actor, producer, director, script writer, social worker, columnist.
Whenever Punjabi films, music and literature are mentioned, the first name that comes to mind is that of Inayat Hussain Bhatti. This multi talented person was born on 12th January 1928 in Gujrat, Punjab. He received his education from his hometown and graduated from Zamindar College and later went to Lahore with the intention of getting a degree in Law but fate had something else in store for him.
In 1997, he suffered an attack of paralysis, which impaired his speech and kept him bed-ridden for most of the time thereafter. A few days before his death, the 71-year-old artiste was taken to his native home Gujrat, where on 31 May 1999, he died and was buried next to his parents.

He was regarded as an exceptional comedy talent and for many years was the star of the hit TV show " Alif Noon" that ran across three seasons. He was a familiar face, well known and loved by all. He was a respected figure in his community.
Nanha was introduced in film Wattan ka Sipahi in 1966 after his remarkable performance in first Ptv comedy series Alif Noon. He worked hard in the first decade of his film career and got breakthrough from film Noukar in 1975. He was hero in film Tehka Pehlwan in 1979 and in the same year his film Dubai Chalo (1979) was super hit on box office. Despite the dominance of Sultan Rahi and his action films Nanha-Ali jaz-pair gained lot of popularity as hero/comedian pair in the first half of 80s and were seen in more than 50 movies in leading roles. They were paired since film Insayniat (1967). Nanha's most famous film in title role was Sala Sahib (1981), which ran for more than 300 weeks in Lahore's cinemas. His other famous movies in leading roles were Sohra ta Jawai (1980), Noukar tay Malik, Dostana (1982), Dillan day Souday, Qudrat, Sona Chandi (1983), Sahib Jee (1983), Nikah, Choorian, Dhee Rani, Mehndi (1985).
He was seen in 391 movies, 166 Urdu, 221 Punjabi/Siraiki, 3 Sindhi and a single Pashto film. His last released film was Pasoori Badshah in 1991.
Nanha was also a bank employee when he entered to the show biz world. He committed suicide on June 2, 1986 after a failure of his one-way love affair with dancer Nazli.
Rafi Khawar may be gone. But the super-performer, Nanha, of 'Alif Noon', lives on.

He is the Pride of Pakistan, an academy in his own, serving Pakistan for more than 40 years in promoting Art and Culture through his acting all over the world in the mediums of Theater, Radio, Television and Film. In his commanding career he is the only actor to earn himself nomination as best actor for 8 times and winner of 4 accolades as best actor for Pakistan Television Corporation. In 2001, he was recognized as “Voice of Millennium” from Pakistan broad Casting Corporation.
He came, he worked, and he conquered. All this can be said about Firdous Jamal and not a single sentence would go wasted. Firdous Jamal is one of the most seasoned actors, we are blessed with in Pakistan drama industry. Firdous Jamal came in media as a singer. Initially, he had no plans to be an actor but fate had something else written for him. Later on, he joined radio. He also worked in theatre for quite a long time and this also helped him to broaden his horizon as an actor. He stayed in the industry and gave auditions for TV plays as well. Finally, he got selected. His first drama was a Hindko serial. After that he gave numerous fantastic serials and plays. Firdous Jamal, in his acting career so far, has done 300 TV plays in Urdu, Pashto, Hindko, and Punjabi.
He did approximately 150 stage plays, 200 radio plays and around 50 films in Urdu, Pashto, Sindhi and Siraieki. Waris, Waqat, Aik Mohabbat So Afsanay, Sahil ,Sayeeban Sheeshay ka, Man chale ka sauda, Mehboob, Pagal Ahmeq Bewakoof, Saahil, Piyari,Dhoop Deewar and Ruswaiyan are some of his super hit plays which are remembered even today. Firdous Jamal has also been awarded Pride of Perfomance in 1986, as the youngest best actor. He was only 32 years old at that time. Acting is not a joke, and nobody knows it best than Firdous Jamal. He believes that nowadays less importance is given to the script and more to glamour and set designing in the play.

The Xavier Sisters, Karachi
How many of you know that the first all-girls band of Pakistan emerged on the music scene as far back as 1966 when five sisters who began singing at concerts in 1961 formalized the group as "The Xavier Sisters"? Club scene was active in Karachi and there were many local bands playing. The Xavier Sisters turned out to be the first all-girls band to emerge.
By 1967 they played for talent shows and jam sessions all over Karachi. As their popularity grew they were invited to sing in different other cities and also got opportunities on radio and TV.
In 1969, The Xavier Sisters became the first Karachi based band to have an international contract that took them to Tehran. The band sang jazz, pop and dance numbers mostly in English with few numbers in French, Spanish and Italian. They even sang a Punjabi song on TV. By early 70s, the group started disbanding slowly when a couple of sisters moved abroad. In 1975, The Xavier Sisters officially broke up as a group when rest of the family migrated to Canada.
