WANA: Eight members of a banned militant outfit were arrested in Kalatoi area of Tehsil Birmal in Wana sub-division during a military swoop on Monday. According to sources in the political administration, security forces conducted a search operation during which they arrested eight members of the Punjabi Taliban and also recovered weapons. The arrested militants were shifted to Zirri Noor camp, but authorities did not confirm whether any key commander was among those taken into custody. Until the filing of this report, the search operation was continuing in the area and Wana-Azam Warsak Road was closed for all kind of traffic, while communication systems were also suspended. inp
Crime Investigation Department (CID) on December 19 claimed to have arrested six suspects and recovered weapons from their possession from different places including Korangi Industrial Area, Sohrab Goth and Saddar area of Karachi, reported Daily Times. Officials said that the accused were associated with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and used to provide logistic support to TTP militants who arrived in the city from tribal areas. The detained suspects include Ejaz, Fateh Khan, Akbar Khan, Tabish, Imam Buksh and Adnan Khan. A Kalashnikov, four TT pistols and narcotics were also recovered from their possession. According to details, one of them, Ejaz is said to be an activist of a political party.
KALAYA: At least 30 terrorists were killed and 18 security personnel were injured in the ongoing operation in Upper Orakzai Agency on Wednesday.
According to sources, security forces were advancing towards Alikhail and Kago Qamar areas of Upper Orakzai Agency where a clash between security forces and terrorists took place in which at least 18 soldiers including Major Samiaullah were injured. Military helicopters shifted the injured to CMH Kohat. Some of the injured were stated to be in critical condition.
In retaliation, the security forces opened fire on terrorists, killing at least 18 of them on the spot. The security forces’ helicopters fired shells at the terrorists’ hideouts, destroying five hideouts and killing 12 terrorists.
The security sources said that a store of explosive material and two vehicles used by the terrorists were also destroyed. A political administration official confirmed that 30 terrorists were killed. inp
QUETTA: Two people were killed and five others sustained injuries in an armed clash between pro-government peace force and unidentified persons in Loti area of Dera Bugti on Saturday. The Balochistan Levies of Loti area confirmed the incident and said that unidentified armed men attacked the peace force when it was on a routine patrol in the area. Resultantly, five people of Amn force sustained injuries. Two attackers were killed when Amn force personnel returned fire. The identities of the dead could not be ascertained. staff report
DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Dera Ismail Khan police killed two suspected terrorists in a successful 24-hour standoff to retrieve three kidnapped government workers. Dera Ismail Khan police chief, Imtiaz Shah, said on Monday that two other terrorists blew themselves up during the standoff. Nobody else was harmed. Shah said the terrorists kidnapped three workers from a state-run insurance company on Saturday. Police followed the terrorists and surrounded them in a village shortly before they were going to take the workers to the nearby South Waziristan Agency. agencies
RAWALPINDI, Dec 27: Four wanted terror suspects, including a leader of the outlawed Lashkar-i-Jhangvi, involved in the killing of four security personnel and a civilian at Pir Chambal in Jhelum have been captured; Dawn learnt on Tuesday.
A source said one of the terror suspects arrested by security agencies was Dr Arshad of Lashkar-i-Jhangvi.
The four security men and a civilian were found shot dead on November 12 after they went missing during an unsuccessful attempt to capture the Lashkar-i-Jhangvi leader at Pir Chambal.
Dr Arshad, who was wanted by the local police in connection with kidnapping for ransom and other heinous crimes, belonged to Pind Dadan Khan town.
His three accomplices – Mazhar Hussain, Iqbal Ahmed and Wasif Mehmood – were also arrested, said the security source.
He added that since the investigation into the killing of the security officials, 11 police officials, including a woman, posted in Jhelum and Chakwal had also been investigated by a joint investigation team though none of them was formally booked.
A police official said a departmental inquiry was still underway against the police officials who had already been suspended in connection with the Pir Chambal incident.
PARACHINAR: Terror bid was foiled by security forces who defused two remote control devices, planted at two separate spots on the main highway stretching from Parachinar to Peshawar on Tuesday.
Official sources said that on the information of the locals who got suspicious about a device planted on the roadside at the Urwali area, security forces arrived at the spot and cordoned off the entire area. A search operation was launched when another remote control device was found and defused by the security forces. inp
