Pakistani born astrophysicist one of key people who detected gravitational waves

The gratitude should run both ways. America is a welcoming society No doubt.

but they do have a shortage of young people interested in the sciences. For almost a decade now, smart American kids have been moving into finance, derivatives, Wall Street etc etc. they would really have a problem if smart asian kids including Chinese, Indian korean etc did not step in. A very large number of PhDs are actually going to asian kids nowadays.

There you go again! ask those very kids and they'll tell you they are Americans. But look at the numbers too. 1) In relation to their population, Indians and Chinese are disproportionately higher in Phds, yes; But a large number of those with Phds that actually matter are locally born; yes I am making the assertion that a LARGE proportion of foreign born students who come to the US to get their Phds get totally inconsequential doctorates that represent neither scientific inquiry nor engineer prowess. There are gems ofcourse but the majority are useless from a science point of view. They end up in lifelong post doctoral assistanships. 2) White Americans of European and Jewish descent still are brutal majority of science, economics, commerce - by sheer numbers. 3) The Black and Latino communities are the ones that are very under represented in accomplishments - for different reasons.

I'd also ask you look at the degree of accomplishment of the 2nd generation and 3rd generation of immigrants from India and China. Assimilation effects sweep right in

.
Congratulations to the lady. More and more people should join mainstream science.

Still she cannot go to jannah according to Saeed Anwar. "Is kaam sy koi jannat main nahi jata jab tak Iman/Aamal theek na hon'.

Nergis Mavalvala MIT - Pakistani born astrophysicist one of key people who detected gravitational waves.

Nergis Mavalvala is a Pakistani-born astrophysicist , A Professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She is one of the key people who detected gravitational waves.

In 1916 – Albert Einstein predicts gravitational waves exist as a consequence of the theory of general relativity.
Gravitational waves give us another way to observe space. These waves could tell us a little more about how the universe formed. So detecting these waves would give us a new new insight into the cosmic events that produced them.

Finally, gravitational waves could also help physicists understand the fundamental laws of the universe. They are, in fact, a crucial part of Einstein's general theory of relativity

This Pakistani Born is Part of LIGO Team that Discovered Gravitational Waves!

By now you must be aware of the ground breaking discovery of gravitational waves made by the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO). The announcement, made yesterday, has been called one of the most significant scientific advances of the modern era. And a Pakistani born scientist is among the team that made this breakthrough discovery.

Dr. Nergis Mavalvala, a professor of Physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, was born in Karachi and immigrated to the US as a teenager. After getting a B.A. in Physics and Astronomy from Wellesley College in 1990, she went on to receive her Ph.D. in Physics from MIT in 1997. A brief stint as a research scientist at Caltech was followed by her joining the Physics faculty at MIT in 2002.

Her work on gravitational waves was part of her research in graduate school at MIT, where she now is an associate department head of Physics. She credits her success to a host of mentors from the chemistry teacher in Pakistan who let her play with reagents in the lab after school to the head of the physics department at MIT, who supported her work when she joined the faculty in 2002.

Laka !!! everything i intend to post already gets posted this is intellectual theft :hitwall::feminist::feminist::astagh::astagh::pissed:

Congrats to our Persian cousins. :yahoo:

Just to make it clear by Persian, I mean that she's an ethnic Persian being a descendant of the original inhabitants of Iran, and by cousin I mean that the Persians are cousins of the Pashtuns--which is why they traditionally have supported Pashtuns in wars.
they supported northern alliance just to damage your facts:rofl:

Happy to see pakistanis taking pride in achievements of a non-muslim pakistani woman. Its a proud moment indeed.

.
And what will Pakistan and Pakistani's do with this knowledge and experience? Assemble STEALTH JF17's with DSI, or to detect gravitational waves of our politicians and generals farts from space ? Maybe we could call it, A*S*S*F*A*R*T (Advanced Satellite for Smelly Fart and Rear Tear) detection?

To get our priorities straight as a nation, it will take at least two more centuries, that is if the gods are kind to us and we still exist for that long as a nation.

On topic, if she were ever to come to Pakistan, she would become the secretary to some half witted general at SUPARCO. Who'd want such a fate? Not anyone with an IQ bigger than that of an amoeba.

On the other hand, if she has a death wish, she could visit her parents in Karachi and become collateral damage in the turf war between different political and sarkari forces........ :cheesy:

This is good ...now she can bring this knowledge to Pakistani shores and we can do lots from there .

She's a Parsi not a Safavi Ayatolloid. The Parsis are the original and real Persians. Pashtuns are related to Persians and not the current ruling elite of Iran who are mostly Safavis and South Lebanese. And yes if you were capable of reading, you'd discover that Parsis historically have supported Pashtuns in wars against others.

I would laugh at how you made an idiot of yourself trying to mock me, but I find you too pathetic to laugh at.

.
Congrats bhabhiji, apparently she is married to an Indian (Inline with Pakistanis congratulating Sani Mirza):P

sorry jani you took it too personally ........ I have many parsi frandz and they keep telling me the same sorry to hurt or may i just say to nuke your feelings:dirol::drag:

I always wanted to study physics but couldn't because of out shit education and brain drain.

This is a popular Indian myth that Muslim Pakistanis don't appreciate their non-Muslim counterparts.

Now, if Indians started appreciating their minorities on the other hand...

Apparantly doesn't sound so reassuring.

It took 69 freaking years for Pakistan to recognise hindu marriages and don't recognise interracial marriages without converting to Muslims , it's easy to point fingers at others when you don't look at yourself , stop bringing India into unrelated threads .
