One favorite bugaboo of anti-immigrant bigots is 'cultural assimilation', specifically outward appearance. But Sikhs keep beards, and wear turbans and kirpas. Hindus proudly display the red dot on the forehead. Most south Asians of all nationalities wear saris in public.

This is precisely what the author wanted to convey, ignore the breeding mentality. The attitude to live on welfare payments beyond their means is what the intent is. Instead people forget the message, and blow a hole into the messenger.

It is entirely political, and always changes targets over time. From the Irish to the Blacks, to the Jews and the Asians, and now in the post-9/11 era... it seems to have latched on to the Muslims.

I have Chinese family members who live in the West, and when I visited them there... we went to nothing but Chinese restaurants, and met only other Chinese people. Heck, I talk to more Westerners here in HK than I did over there.

Which just goes to show that this "they are not integrating!" BS... is more about political opportunism rather than anything else.

She is not an average Indian. Her family was politically active and on Indira Gandhi's invite list. She herself is a politician. It tells us what kind of political prejudice she was surrounded by while growing up.

Look, I am not disputing her claims in the sense that it is plausible that Pakistani/Bangladeshi migrants have more children than the average white Brit. Many immigrants from poorer countries follow that pattern -- especially the less educated, blue collar migrants.

My only comment is why she chose to throw fuel on the fire? Why did she pick this issue which specifically singles out Pakistanis and Bangladeshis? In that sense, her political upbringing becomes interesting and makes you wonder if there is a political angle to her actions.

Lumping us with Pakistanis is unfair. They breed like rats there, don't work and have an attitude of entitlement. The concern here is the attitude of Pakistanis and Bangladeshis to breed simply to obtain extra welfare benefits. Behind the smoke and the mirrors of PIIGS and her Indian affiliation, this is the key point highlighted by the article. What is your opinion on the same ?

At one point in time. Things are changing now. We are re-awakening and realizing our self worth, culture and the fact that we can just as good or better than you Indians.

Indians are the second richest community in UK immediately after whites and they are even better educated than whites also.

many british teen age girls do the same...have baby at very young age like at 15 year old so that they can live on benifits......at age 30 they are grand mothers and at 50 they are greaat grand mothers....
south asians may be having too many babies per couple...but white brits arent far behind..at two kids per generation...at age 40 a brit couple has an average of 4 off springs.....sometimes more...
asians have stable familiea with far lesser divorce rates so the children although on benifits still cost less than the children of broken up families which is very commn in whites.

I already said that low income, less educated migrants tend to have more children. The questions would be more meaningful if fertility rates for all migrants were viewed, including Carribean, African and Eastern European migrants.

The disturbing part in her statement is the needless comparison to Indian communities. What was the need for that? This in addition to the Sikh guy who now heads the EDL. Unfortunate trends...

Every other group has lower fertility rate than Pakistanis and Bangladeshis. Its not about Muslims. Even Indian muslim migrants in UK have lower birth than Pakistani and Bangladeshis.
