An Indian was arrested for having sex with a dog.

A 54-year-old man was arrested on Friday evening for allegedly sexually assaulting a dog. Police said the incident was reported from Kalkaji area of southeast Delhi by the Jagdishwar, a tea-stall owner who treated the stray dog as his pet. The accused, one Devki Nandan Nautiyal, works as a helper at a local eatery in the area.

According to the police, Jagdishwar alleged he had seen Nautiyal with the dog inside the park and raised an alarm. He said the accused tried to flee but was nabbed by locals, who thrashed him before handing him over to the police.

"Jagdishwar kept his dog with him at the tea stall. But, on Friday evening, when he did not see his pet around he went to search for him. He said he caught Nautiyal having unnatural sex with it in the park," said an investigating official.

Police said Nautiyal, a resident of Okhla, was under the influence of alcohol when he committed the crime.

A medical examination of the dog was conducted at a veterinary hospital in

Defence Colony. "She has not suffered any trauma and injury. We have sent her fluid samples to forensic officials," said Uma Menon, board member of Friendicoes SECA, where the dog was examined.

"We have booked the accused for having unnatural sex and under section 11 A of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The investigation is on," added the investigating officer.

Additional Commissioner of Police Ajay Chaudhary said the the mental state of the accused was stable.
