The fact remains that it is a Yakont , and the vary name BhraMOS, where MOS stands for Moscow. Whatever modification done, are done with full Russian assistance and guidance. If India was that good , it would have made this missile on its own and its own track record with Nirbay which is nothing short of shambols, is a clear indication of India lacking expertise. Bhramos cannot be classed as Indian. Hence the original argument.
True, BrahMos cannot be classified as Indian as it is indeed not an Indian missile but a product of a joint venture.
As for modifications done, initially we did indeed require Russian assistance to produce BrahMos' subsystems in India and we slowly kept indigenizing and now we only really need their permission to modify the BrahMos and replace the said Russian subsystems with fully indigenously developed seekers, solid fueled boosters and the like.
As for the track record of Nirbhay; cruise missiles are entirely very complicated weapon systems.
They are basically autonomous planes and failures during initial tests is all but guaranteed.
Nirbhay's failures up until now are completely normal and even expected and cannot be compared with the successful tests of a complete and mature platform like BrahMos.
The progenitor of modern cruise missiles the Tomahawk had numerous initial failures and crashes even now. The Americans conducted countless tests before they even deemed it competent enough for induction.
"Anyone" saying that they can induct a subsonic cruise missile in an unrealistically shorter time frame with just a handful of tests when compared to those of America(the pioneers of modern cruise missiles), and with absolutely ZERO failures, is lying and the said cruise missile is an imported product.
