ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Thursday vowed not to be a part of any internal conflict in Afghanistan.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s House, the Afghan conflict brought great suffering for both Afghanistan and Pakistan over the last 40 years and the peace process presented a historic opportunity for peace in the region.

The statement emphasised upon the significance of intra-Afghan dialogue wherein the people of Afghanistan will themselves decide upon the future of their country.

“Pakistan is highly dismayed by the surge of violence in Afghanistan from all sides. The so-called offensives are condemnable and will undermine the peace process. It is not right to seek an edge in dialogue through coercion. Pakistan implores all parties to recognise the importance of the moment and seize it,” the statement said.

According to the statement, Pakistan has committed all diplomatic and security capital for the success of the peace process and the country would no longer be a part of any internal conflict in Afghanistan.

US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation on Friday welcomed the statement by Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan on his appeal for reduction of violence in the country.

Khalilzad says in a tweet that he “greatly appreciates Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s statement yesterday on Afghanistan”.

He said that Khan’s “appeal for reduction of violence and policy against promoting internal conflict in other nations has potential to positively transform the region and give Pakistan a leading role”.

In a statement released on Thursday, April 25, Khan said that Afghanistan conflict has brought great suffering for both Afghanistan and Pakistan over last 40 years.

He said that “now, after a long wait, the Afghanistan Peace Process presents a historic opportunity for peace in the region and Pakistan is fully supporting the process including the next logical step of Intra Afghan Dialogue wherein Afghans will themselves decide upon the future of their country”.

In this backdrop, Khan said, Pakistan is highly dismayed by the surge of violence in Afghanistan from all sides.

He said that the “so called offensives are condemnable and will undermine the peace process”.

Khan said that it is not right to seek an edge in dialogue through coercion.

“Pakistan implores all parties to recognize the importance of the moment and seize it. Pakistan has committed all diplomatic and security capital to the success of the peace process. Pakistan will not be a party to any internal conflict in Afghanistan anymore,” Khan said in the statement.

The remarks come amid an increase in peace efforts and an escalation of conflicts in different parts of the country with the arrival of the spring.

The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan said in a quarterly report on April 24 that it has documented high levels of harm to civilians but adds that there has been a 23 percent decrease in overall civilian casualties as compared to the same period last year and is the lowest for a first quarter since 2013.

The report says the UN documented 1,773 civilian casualties (581 deaths and 1,192 injured), including 582 child casualties (150 deaths and 432 injured) between January 1 and March 31.

In the first quarter of 2018, UNAMA documented 2,305 civilian casualties (799 deaths and 1,506 injured), including 609 child casualties (176 deaths and 433 injured), the report says.

Stupid policy
its a good Policy.. Just distance yourself as the situation is turning to worst -- Talibans announcing Spring Offensive and Afg Govt announcing to fight back & Frustrated USA Trying to Run away by settling things in Afg Through Dialogue -- Pakistan should Avoid Becoming a Casualty in All of this by remaining Neutral... We Should Should Act like a Good Boys & no one is willing to Face the Wrath of Uncle Sam by taking Sides

How can Pakistan put Afghanistan on the ignore list?
-
By Remaining Neutral, let them fight with each others.

- Talibans are already Strong, cannot be defeated.

- USA Is already frustrated - and Pakistan Taking Neutral Stand will frustrate USA More by not being able to Scapegoat Pakistan...

- Afg Govt is Already Corrupt, Failed and incompetent Army is doing rest of the work by surrendering in mass numbers and fleeing their posts..

We have played that "good boy" since 2001 and all have treated us like a "good boy" is usually treated in Afghanistan. Got 80_000 people killed, lost $252 billion for being a stupid good boy who gets taken a ride for by every one and in the end no one appreciated rather blamed the "good boy" so I think you live in a mirror house where you see yourself i.e. the good boy while the outside sees you as stupid boy.

Agreed..But it was also our mistake for not Fencing our Int'l border (Durand Line) with Afghanistan for last 17 years and it was also our Mistake for Not Merging our Tribal Areas with KPK Or making it a New Province, which took us 70 Years....

- Now Things are turning towards Normality In Pakistan and Border is getting Fenced.
- Fata Getting Merged with KPK..

- with Fencing underway, fata merger with kpk, clearance of FATA From terrorists allow us to Distance ourselves from Afg And Ignore USA...Right Now its the right policy when USA Is withdrawing From Afghanistan and Talibans/ANA fighting with each others... we should secure our borders and shut ourselves from Afghanistan as things are already getting worse there and frustrated USA is in hurry to pull out, in this crucial time we cannot afford to take sides !!
if you are suggesting to take sides then it will harm us in a long run when USA pull out and you will definitely see USA Imposing sanctions on Pakistan, and in future if talibans carry out any terrorist attack on another country then ppl will point finger towards Pakistan & They will ask Pakistan to Stop them & everyone Knows that Talibans do not take dictations...
- No one want to see the Repetition of what happened post 9/11 When USA Came down with all blazing Guns and threatning Pakistan either you are with us or the Taliban --_--

Stop this bullshit and annex this dystopian, dysfunctional piece of land. Its overlords have failed its proud people for over a century, creating poverty, misery, wars and refugees. Afghanistan needs to be incorporated into Pakistan. There's no other solution in my mind.

Fist we need to get that part where the Afghanistan border touches both China and Central Asian States. That thin strip needs to be captured.

Good boy, bad boy... what crack are you smoking. We should support peace and stability in region. Period. No one cares how outsiders see us regardless.

Totally agree with you, no one gives a damn about "good boy" or soft image which many people on this forum always propagate, there is no such thing in the real world. Pakistan should always strive to be seen as a "strong courageous boy", not a coward "good boy".

Afghanistan needs to be divided into various parts, pashtun, pashai and nuristani parts should be merged with Pakistan. Tajik parts should be merged with Tajikstan, Uzbek parts should be merged with uzbekstan, Hazara parts should be merged with mongolia.

Stupid policy

I have no idea what this govt is thinking tbh. They are screwing each and everything. Pakistan has to leave Afghanistan for Pakistan military to handle, they know what is best for Pakistan. We cannot afford another 90,000 deaths due to Afghanistan. The improvement of security situation in Pakistan will be compromised by this stupid policy.

Exactly. I second this thought sincerely. I guess its the only logical solution. Else that sithole will be in perpetual war till eternity.
