Pakistan urgently need more helicopter, for disaster relief

I cant comment technically which heli is much suitable but by seeing helis helping evacuating people round the clock in this disaster and the earthquake in 2005 , i must agree that we need more and more helis.

Thanks Rescue Ranger, i just think having multiple thermal eyes on the ground would be better... Cheap and quick platforms are ideal for that, i mean UH-6 can do great in the searching phase because you can buy many of them

But whatever if you want to lease well its a different thing

Chinooks and Blackhawks can do the job...

Agreed. One thing is certain, we should (if future budget) allows. Invest in more Helicopters.

US flying army helicopters to Pakistan for flood relief

WASHINGTON (AFP) – The US military is sending American pilots and helicopters to Pakistan to help with rescue and relief efforts after devastating floods, the Pentagon said on Tuesday.

The pilots will fly four US Army CH-47 Chinook choppers and two UH-60 Blackhawks in flood-hit mountainous areas that are inaccessible by road, spokesman Colonel Dave Lapan told reporters.

"We intend to send CH-47s and UH-60s to go to Pakistan and assist in efforts associated with the floods there," Lapan said.

The military had hoped to have the helicopters, which are based in neighboring Afghanistan, already deployed to Pakistan but bad weather postponed the operation on Tuesday, he said.

The Pentagon earlier supplied Pakistan's interior ministry with several helicopters for rescue efforts, but the latest assistance would involve American pilots flying the aircraft.

In Pakistan, where Washington's policies enjoy little public support, the presence of any US military personnel is a politically sensitive subject. A small contingent of American special forces in the country that train Pakistani soldiers keeps a low public profile.

US-supplied helicopters already have rescued more than 700 people from flood-affected areas of Pakistan and delivered thousands of pounds of rations, officials said on Monday.

Drawing on stocks of humanitarian supplies in Afghanistan and the region, the US military has helped deliver 316,000 halal meals to Pakistan and planned to ferry another 110,000 meals later on Tuesday, Lapan said.

Pakistan issued new flood warnings Tuesday, as the country battled to cope with the worst floods in living memory affecting 3.2 million people and killing up to 1,500.

What if all the politicians return the money they have and WHAT IF all the 'GERNALS' give back the land they get upon retirement.
We could easily buy few helicopters from that. WHAT IF Mr. Kiyani and ALL the retired 'GERNALS' announced that we will give 90 percent of our land which is not necessary for us anyways but alas, Mr. Kiyani announced to give a day salary to the victims--The soldier on the border will have few less dimes this month but generals and co will not have an impact---
WHAT IF we hang all of the corrupt politicians and gernals to make our country better. But wait, who thinks about it? A few good men?

We have been robbed by politicians and pakistan tujhe salams--Our political worker died in a suicide attack while our solider died on the border--Our politicians got the seats out of that dead political worker and our 'gernals' benefited from the dead soldier!
Why do we see poor people on the roof top during floods and hurricanes? Why can't we see any Musharaf or Zardari on the roof top? Why do we salute the robbers?

An individual who posted something above states--blame all politicians--Am I living in the lala land? We had dictatorship during those 'LOST' years, didn't we? What about hangign all those gernals and politicians?
Why can't I see a politician killed during floods? WHY?

Even if it is true, majority of the people here will not admit this because this is a defence forum where military fanatics blame politicians for everything. Every general is a saint for them--God damn! Musharaf was Gabriel of those saints! and Zia was his assistant--

It was better for you to ask--I have heard that Mr. Zardari got kick backs from ABC for XYZ than you would have received a lot of replies from seniors to juniors---Unfortunately, this is Pakistan--where gernal is the saint of the society--

Except for the initial induction of any new platform, where some pilots get trained abroad and then after coming to Pakistan, train the rest of the pilots.

Helicopter fleet has not been grounded, yeah they did got into trouble as spare parts were being consumed at a fast rate during operational requirements, while the emergency spare parts were not being touched as they were for war purposes, and at this same time, problem from US was also coming who were not supplying the spare parts in time including ammo also for the Cobra helicopters which then were procured from another friendly Muslim country.

Kindly elaborate more--What kind of spare parts were consumed at a fast rate and why were they consumed at a fast rate? War purposes--WAR, war with whom? Please give some details so I can send your details to the third source so we can get an actual picture.
What is the difference between consumed during operation requirements and war purposes? Aren't we fighting an actual war in Tribal areas where our soldiers are killed every other day?

If south asia was a better off neighbourhood Indian helicopters would have been flying 24/7 providing relief and many lives would have been saved.Unfortunately that isnt the case

Fair enough, and yes you are correct the military has had sticky fingers just like the civilian administration. Yet there is a reason a certain segment in society feel the military is the un-tranished, righteous hand of justice that it is.
