Pakistan urgently need more helicopter, for disaster relief

Well Mi-26 will be a much better option..I think Ukraine might have some of these...They carry much more than chinook and being russian are more rugged and economical for a heavy lifter..

Chinooks & CH-53s are more close by compared to the Mi-26s which would need a long time to come.

Also US helicopters would be more durable as well as maintenance would be easy and helicopters would be operationally available more of the times.

I seen the news about the flood everyday, thank Pakistan army for rescue about 200 Chinese workers with helicopter, and I think China will provide some helicopter to PLA after this flood~~

Dams are the only solution for future but this B***** govenment ma sary chor k bachy hay.:angry:

Lot of Chinese workers have been rescued and transferred to safer places.

I wish Chinese air bases had been close by, their Z-9s would have been very very helpful in plucking out people from troubled areas.

I hope PA check the Z-9 helicopters and inducts a few of them, as they can be very useful for military operations as well as for emergency relief operations.

Agree with you, China should provide some helicopters and Assault boats to PLA for free, which type depend on the need of PLA,I am sorry an sad for the dead in the flood~

Pakistan need amphibious vehicles like M113 to help the victims of disaster... I cannot believe how our government is still sleeping, Turkish army should have donated some ACV300s to Pakistani Army in this hard time sadly it didnt happen

My prayers are with you, I hope you overcome this disaster with minimal damage ishallah...

Chinooks would be amazing for this kind of operation and troop transport. They were very instrumental in the 2005 EQ relief.

When there was earth quake in Pakistan a few years back the IAF offered to give some helicopters. But the Pakistani Government wanted Pakistani pilots to fly the helis which India did not agree .

Chinook? Do you know how much chinook cost?

CH47s are used to carry heavy loads because of their strong turboshaft engines... Its unnecessary in this situation, Pakistan need cheap helicopters so she can buy many of them...

I think crane mounted Bell 407s are enough for this job and MD500s can be used for searching...

We're not talking about buying them - leasing them with US pilots just as we did in 2005 Earthquake.

dams needed to be build where ever they are needed.. stop saying punjab this and that... we are all one pakistani.. government needs to build these dams and should give more money to those people whoes land has been used for building these dams..

I didnt meant to hurt anybody - no offence please.
But when I said Punjab is this and that................I love my country I was just talking about the dame only and the consesus. If we are not agreed on one thing, did it mean that I said we are not pakistani. I think everybody should respect each other point of you.

Brother you mis-understand.

1. yes i know how much they cost
2. My point has been answered by another poster.
3. We need heavy life + Transport helicopters not bulk.
4.Bell 407s? They have limited applications in SAR
5. MD500s? Why waste money on that when you can easily invest in more UH-1 which can easily do Reece and SAR ops?

And trust me, from my personal experience having CH47 would reduce the number of sorties needed to be run. For Example just recently the PAF had to run 9x Sorties of C-130 aircraft for the following:

a. 4x rescue missions, evacuating 511 individuals (including 17x Foreigners) from Gilgit /Skardu)
b. 2 x missions to Risalpur to deliver approx 27000 Meals Ready to Eat.
c. 1x mission each to Peshawar and Risalpur to deliver relief goods.
d. 1x Recce mission to Swat.
e. 3 x dead bodies of Air Blue crash and 25 x passengers were moved to Gilgit.

Now correct me if im wrong but if we have heavy lift and transport helicopters this could be achieved without having to use the transport aircraft for which you would need to land at an air-strip.

Take Quetta Airport and DI Khan Airport which have been swamped with water make aircraft landings difficult, having CH47 or similar aircraft could reduce the operational overheads and maximise return on capital and optimum operational performance.

That is why i suggested it.

Thanks Rescue Ranger, i just think having multiple thermal eyes on the ground would be better... Cheap and quick platforms are ideal for that, i mean UH-6 can do great in the searching phase because you can buy many of them

But whatever if you want to lease well its a different thing

Chinooks and Blackhawks can do the job...

While you are right Sir, but in order to move relief goods from cities like Lahore and Karachi, to airfields up north you need heavy lifters. You cannot expect Chinooks to do cross country trips.

You can have C-130s (though i think we need bigger planes like C-17 or IL76 for that role) air lift perishable items like food and water and take them up north. From there you can distribute to inland like towns and cities where floods wreaked havoc.

I was at the PAF base Faisal for volunteer work when 2005 earthquake happened. There was lots of relief aid donations and not enough planes to transport them up north quickly enough.

We need both planes and choppers.

It's about time PAF bought some good ones. C-130s are rugged no doubt but we need heavy lifters. You don't need to operate them during peace time so the cost is only associated with purchase. But when bad times like these come, they are the best blessing.

IL 76, AN 124 and C-17 are the type of planes we need.
