ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has decided to summon Bangladesh’s envoy to lodge a protest and convey Islamabad’s concerns over the recent executions of two opposition members, a ruling party lawmaker told lawmakers in the National Assembly on Wednesday.

The announcement by MNA Sheikh Aftab Ahmad came a day after lawmakers unanimously decried the ‘flawed war crimes trials’ of the opposition leaders in Bangladesh and urged the Pakistani government to take up the matter in the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

Bangladesh leader Hasina’s gains from shock hangings seen short-lived

Salauddin Quadir Chowdhury, leader of the Bangladesh National Party, and Ali Ahsan Mojaheed of the Jamaat-e-Islami, were hanged on Sunday in Dhaka’s Central Jail. Pakistan’s Foreign Office expressed ‘shock and anguish’ over the ‘unfortunate executions’ – a move that invited the wrath of the Bangladeshi government that called it ‘unacceptable interference’ in its internal affairs.

Replying to a calling attention notice of Jamaat-e-Islami lawmakers, MNA Ahmad told lawmakers on Wednesday that the government of Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajid was violating a tripartite agreement signed by Pakistan, Bangladesh and India in 1974. “Bangladesh did not exist in 1971 and it was a war between Pakistan and India, and the trial of those who supported Pakistan was irrational,” he added.

PTI lawmaker Shirin Mazari asked the government to call back Pakistan’s ambassador from Dhaka in protest.

Dhaka executions: Asma Jahangir says govt reaction out of place

In other proceedings, the government deferred a bill related to import of Halal products after a rift emerged among its allies. JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman underlined need for a Halal authority to ensure import of Halal products. Zahid Hamid sought some time from speaker to deliberate on this issue.

However, the house passed amendments in the Anti-Money Laundering Act 2010 (VII of 2010). The new bill, Anti-Money Laundering (Amendment) Act, 2015, suggests harsh penalties for money laundering and illegal transaction of money for terrorism. The new amendments replaced certain words and clauses to make the act compatible with the new challenges.

The house also offered Fateha for Mariam Mukhtiar, the first lady pilot of Pakistan Air Force who died in a crash on Tuesday near Mianwali.

Asma Jahangir on Pak reaction to execution of 2

Pakistan's top rights activist Asma Jahangir has blasted the Pakistan government for demonstrating “disproportionately high passion” against the execution of two war criminals in Bangladesh.

“The government was only confirming the fact that two men were political agents and working for the cause of Pakistan,” the country's English daily the Dawn quoted her as saying.

The response sent a message that the government of Pakistan had extraordinary love and affection for the opposition members in Bangladesh than its citizens, Jahangir told reporters at the Supreme Court on Monday, according to a report run by the newspaper yesterday.

“Equal passion, we hope, will be shown by the government for the people on death row in Pakistan than being hanged elsewhere in the world by denying due process,” she said.

The rights activist was reacting to the response by the foreign office and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan expressing anguish and concern over the execution of BNP leader Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury and Jamaat leader Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mojaheed.

Jahangir said Pakistan should first take up the issue of capital punishment through unfair trials here and of those Pakistanis who were being consistently executed in Saudi Arabia and then show disproportionately high passion for the politicians of Bangladesh.

“Are these two Bangladeshi more important than the people living in Pakistan?” she asked. If the answer is in the affirmative, the government should also explain why and what for, she insisted.

She was of the opinion that the hangings in Bangladesh would “further deepen the divide and haunt its politics in the future”. She said all human rights activists who monitored these trials “agreed that due process had not been given to the two accused”.

“We've condemned the unfortunate developments and even given out urgent appeals to the Amnesty International and other international human rights organisations in this regard,” she added.

The two politicians, said Jahangir, were executed “without affording due process”. The same right was being denied to the people facing trial in military courts on terrorism charges, she observed.

“We're against the death penalty and unfair trials whether in Pakistan, Bangladesh or elsewhere,” she said, adding that everybody knew that the trial of the two Bangladeshi politicians was “flawed”, but the role of Pakistan was something which was not understandable.

“If they [Pakistan government] are against the death penalty or the undue process, they should look into the trials being conducted by the military courts,” she said.

SLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected a petition moved in 2009 seeking repatriation of around 237,000 stranded Pakistanis from Bangladesh by the federal government.

“During proceedings, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed also reminded petitioner that a Bangladesh high court in 2003 had declared stranded Pakistanis as citizen of Bangladesh and the Bangladesh Supreme Court also ratified it.”

Quick question to some learned members....

can we summon diplomats for anything?? even if the matter is pretty much internal??

for God sake its more than 40 years now, its time for Pakistan to move on, why summoning the diplomat and wasting his time? considering Pakistan has absolutely zero influence on current BD government.

and so many Pakistanis felt insulted when BD presented a picture of the Pakistani surrender to Modi! Frankly, Pakistani military should feel lucky that their leaders all did not get hauled before an international war crimes and genocide panel for the dastardly acts they committed against people of Bangladesh.

Tell that to Hasina.

BongBang needs to stop riding on Pakistans d-ck. Geo-politically speaking BD is insignificant to Pakistan, I suggest you focus on the ills of BD instead of pointing fingers.

You seem to be riding on their dick. Im good here in BD. Chamar dalal like you should know your place, ie dish cleaning, onion cutting overseas. Mean proud OC DC. After getting slap and kick by your white masters everyday you must be finding place among extremists. When your blind hate perception is cleared you will see that Ive posted a relevant topic about Pak-BD relation in a Pak forum. And in this thread I havent added any comment yet which are ongoing news only, your personal attack in this thread is unwanted. Which I know you are a troll and bigot attention seeker, who keeps barking on every thread for nothing.

I didn't attack you personally you moron, however you just have (you have presumed my occupation derogatively, which is rude in western countries). Cutting onions and washing dishes I'll keep it humble and not boast my personal belongings. Brother if it wasn't for Bengalis overseas you'd still be bending backwards to the taxman.

Back to the topic, Awami League (they need to get rid of the word Awaam, cos they couldn't give a toss about people). AL tactics are trashtalking Pakistan, a distant land, lynching people, killing people, dirty scummy politics and resorting to violence.

Btw, white masters? I don't work for a white man, I am self employed..

Pakistanare ayner shathe khara owa kun laab? Kisu o fayda nai. Stop beating around the bush little man.

This is nothing on topic. Stop talking trash from what social background you are coming. Topic is SQ, Mujahid hanging. Pakistan summons Bangladeshi envoy. Why? Was SQ Mujahid Pakistani or their agent?
Dont act like puppet beating around same bush, Are you still on your puberty? Did you cross 18 yet?

Only for large public disputes where hajmola is not enough is an envoy summoned. Otherwise the piddly stuff is dealt with by staffers at the diplomatic mission, it is the host nation's way of showing public disapproval, short of swearing on twitter. It's very formal, and well planned the agenda is set out in a memo which is sent out in advance to avoid deviation.

Actually she just proved that she is on someone else's payroll and on anti Pakistan agenda
