Pakistan to skip US summit on democracy

.
Democracy is overrated

And abused. When one puts India and democracy in the same sentence, one is either assuming that democracy (in real sense as a form of good governance) is a bad thing, or India is in fact located in Norway.

.
Contrary to popular belief Pakistan's decision to not participate is not bcz of chinese sensitivities. Pakistan didnt participate bcz popular belief in our foreign policy circles is that US doesnt want to engage us in strategic discussions and is trying to limit us to such democracy summit type BS. People should remember how Pakistan was snubbed at climate change summit which was more important that this garbage democracy summit. Also US has turned this summit into a political stunt bcz of which it has lost all the meaning.

. .
its too hard to secure pakistan from extremists now in fact its too late . imran khan is worse in this even from zardari . his peerni is ruling pakistan from bed room

khalifa will be shia or sunni then ?

It'll be me and you'll do as you're told.
Democracy is overrated

Exactly. Look at all the successful businesses - they appoint competent people and set them targets, if they fail, they are removed, if they succeed they are rewarded. Nobody votes in a new employee in a business. Why should governance be different?

Its slogans of democracy and human rights are hollow, as evidenced by its ties to India, which is a sham democracy with poor human rights record. Pakistan doesn't need anybody to lecture it.

If you chose Pakistan to be authoritarian, you are practically gambling, you can end up like North Korea, Myanmar, Venezuela or China/Singapore.

Yup democracy needs educated and wise voters, usually we will see two opposing side with fanatic tendency, what we need is just a middle group who is educated enough with good critical thinking ability, long term based kind of thinking, open minded, and will see program and track records as their parameter to choose political party and President in direct election. This group should be large enough, around 10 percent of total voters.

This is in the context of Presidential system and direct Presidential Election, not parliamentary base system that IMO will make non elite leaders difficult to reach power. Presidential system direct election should put 51 % as minimum to win an election, there you can see that 10 % group of people will determine the course of election when 2 opposing candidates are at ballots. Philippine in other hand only has one stage election, this kind of system is not as efficient as the ones who uses 51% minimum votes to win ( which means election will likely be in 2 stages )

Authoritarian system has potency to end up like Syria/Libya if the succession system is not good enough. This authoritarian system that is good is China one party "civilian" system since the succession system seems quite good and military will focus to be professional soldiers (no business, no politics).

Singepore? China? I get it Myanmar, North Korea or Venezuela you don't wanna be in their situations.. Singepore and China are free world tho

Pakistan showed some backbone against the pressure of US ,which India couldn't.But it's the least Pakistan can do by not attending a fraud democracy summit by the greatest human rights abuser, for everything China is investing in Pakistan and for backing Pakistan at UNSC ,at China's own political expense at times.

2 opposing result if you chose authoritarian system, you cannot have belief that if you choose Authoritarian system you will automatically end up like China/Singapore. One extreme into another extreme will have similar probability to happen, some where in the middle also can happen. This is why I said making a gamble where as people you will be powerless to change situation if something like Venezuela is what you end up with massive corruption and no check and balance

Democracy skipped Pakistan first. Talk about summit, it went over our tallest heads.

Totally not Pakistan's fault. She started it. Oops that victim blaming.

In cricketing puns, democracy has stumped us all.

I am gonna miss her when we can no longer make gormint jokes.

Time to wind up this sham democracy in Pakistan. There is an urgent need for a nationalist, benevolent and ruthless institutional dictatorship/autocracy in Pakistan, on the lines of China.

Islamabad believes both countries can engage on the subject at an 'opportune time in the future'

ISLAMABAD:
Pakistan has decided to skip the summit on democracy being convened by President Joe Biden in a rebuke to the White House that may have serious implications for the already strained relationship between the two countries.

The announcement was made by the Foreign Office (FO) just hours before the two-day summit is to kick start after days of in-house consultations.

No reason was cited by the FO in the official handout of virtually snubbing the US invite but multiple factors played a part. One of the reasons includes the exclusion of China from the summit while the overall state of the relationship between the two countries also compelled Islamabad to stay away from the democracy summit.

It is believed that President Biden's move to continue to ignore Prime Minister Imran Khan also made it difficult for Islamabad to attend the summit on democracy.

The US president is hosting the summit on December 9 and 10 and has invited leaders from over 100 countries. Pakistan was amongst the only four South Asian countries which were invited to the summit. Others included India, Maldives and Nepal.

"We are thankful to the United States for inviting Pakistan for participation in the Summit for Democracy, being held virtually on 9-10 December 2021," the foreign office said in a statement.

"Pakistan is a large functional democracy with an independent judiciary, vibrant civil society, and a free media. We remain deeply committed to further deepening democracy, fighting corruption, and protecting and promoting the human rights of all citizens. In recent years, Pakistan has instituted wide-ranging reforms aimed at advancing these goals. These reforms have yielded positive results," the official communique read.

It went on to emphasise that Pakistan values its partnership with the US which it wishes to expand both bilaterally as well as in terms of regional and international cooperation.

"We remain in contact with the US on a range of issues and believe that we can engage on this subject at an opportune time in the future," the statement said while politely rejecting the US invitation.

"Pakistan will, meanwhile, continue to support all efforts aimed towards strengthening dialogue, constructive engagement, and international cooperation for the advancement of our shared goals," it concluded.
Khan be like: Putr tu call nai kitti c teri democracy cancelled 😏
