Pakistan to seek debt restructuring of CPEC power projects

.
Not challenging, just wondering how IMF debt restructuring going on?

You are absolutely right.

CPEC debt by Pakistan to China constituted only 15% of its overall external debt. Highly manageable.

I guess it is easier to talk to a close friend like China than to the Paris Club and IMF.

Nah, that’s additional 15% in the last 10 years of the already unmanageable external debt you have.

makes easier now because IMF have been giving u money since the 80s which you havent paid back on time. So it’s no surprise they’re gona be strict

the biggest problem in pakistan is not even the lack of exports. It’s your government leveraging to the tits just to have access to money in the international market. The biggest example is your metro train project

your government leveraged so much and borrowed at a 9% interest on USD

as a reference the interest on US bonds is 0.25%
.
Think about how many multiple of liability pakistan government is willing to take just to get money at whatever interest and passing the liability to the next guy

and when the bill comes due that interest is taken out of your foreign reserve. And the stupidity is that that project would only generate money in rupees not in USD but not only ur paying the interest in USD ur also paying the principal in USD

.
That’s exactly what the article says that pakistan owed $3billion to electric companies at an unknown interest rate. It’s asking Chinese government for that $3 billion to pay those power companies. Now when we talk about refinance it usually means its asking Chinese government to give the $3 billion at a lower interest

Also it’s not a welcome step deferment of payment will keep the interest accruing. And when u pay back loan you pay the interest first then the remaining amount goes to the principal

These could be commercial bank loans e.g. EXIM and not by the Chinese Government.
Pakistan could be requesting for a loan assistance from China to help it to ride through these difficult time.

. . .
Producing electricity by imported oil and natural gas is more expensive.
US produce electricity by natural gas, no import needed, very cheap price natural gas.
The rest of countries relies on coal mainly to cut the cost.

China invested/funded hydropower stations which can lower fuel cost.

So alright, blame China. Those oil/gas power stations which was built decades ago is China's fault.

You live abroad, spread misleading info. Either on purpose, or less informed.

yeah more likely. But I doubt it’s EXIM Chinese are not gona refinance EXIM loans just like IMF wasn’t willing to give loans in lieu tht u we’re gona use the money to pay off CPEC

the article clearly says why they’re asking for Chinese for money

at current interest rate to the power companies you’re govt is gona have to put a tariff of Rs 6.45/unit to make end meets.

they’re telling the Chinese to refinance the debt at a lower interest which would reduce the tariff by 1-1.50/unit. I mean in the long run it’s beneficial for your citizens which is a step in right direction. When the govt thinks about it’s citizens first

. . .
That is what USA and India wants, right.
They felt threatened by CPEC projects.

:coffee:

No one is threatened by CPEC except Pakistan itself. What has CPEC done for Pakistan except make her China's debt slave? When will Pakistan see dividends from these projects? Probably never.
The Chinese played us big time, and we're too stupid to realize it.
