Pakistan to scrap law allowing dual-national overseas Pakistanis to vote

You can do that, who care what a retard will do or not. I love my motherland and I'll keep sending money to my dear ones.

You already left the country. So some filth is already out. Why the heck you are trying to lecture others who are still faithful to the nation?
Do you think overseas Pakistanis are complete cucks?
Do you think they'll stand for the ouster of a democratically elected patriotic government they support, by a mafia of thieves, corrupts and sellouts who are taking away their right to democratic participation in the politics of the country by denying them their votes?
If they can't vote at the ballot box, they will vote with their feet and with their pockets. They will not fund the economy to pay for these traitors to buy more Avenfields and Surrey estates.

.
Naya Pakistan certificates are term deposits. So I doubt if there will be a withdrawal soon. But there may be a drop in inflow because of uncertainty with new administration policy. My guess is that Shahbaz will keep the Naya Pakistan scheme and after a few slow months, investors will return with confidence :coffee:
Yes.. most likely. Remittances usually tend to go up during economic downturn. Let's see what happens
The question is what is the reason behind it? What stops it? Whats so special about India? How is India SO VASTLY different than Pakistan in this matter? I can not see any reason other than simple and stupid ego and jealousy masquerading as security concerns. And honestly, if India did HALF of things right that west did, it would come out much better than what it is right now.

China once was adamant that capitalistic market based economy was a curse from west. It led to 60 million deaths in cultural revolution. Then they learnt from that mistake and went for controlled market based economy and never turned back. Upshot is, decisions taken in pure ego and jealousy with no basis in reality are often stupid. "We do not need to blindly follow west" is a stupid thinking. You need to follow wisely what is good for you. Above all ask the questions about ideological decisions.

Remittance will also not go up. A 50-100 billion extra investment and remittance can cover for India's chronic balance of payment issue. Actually, remittance to GDP ratio is NOT a proper metric. What is proper is remittance to export ratio. India's exports have been falling for quite sometime now. Increasing remittance and investment opportunities from diaspora can help cover that.

And NO FDI is NOT similar to remittance. FDI is mostly directed towards institutional and business investors and not diaspora. Diaspora can be a totally separate channel.

India received USD 339.55 billion in FDI over last 5 years (https://economictimes.indiatimes.co...-fdi-in-last-5-years/articleshow/89457741.cms). India got 394 billion in remittance in the last 5 years. It could actually get above 600 billion dollars in remittance easily by having more diaspora friendly policies. So yes, remittance for India has been bigger source of forex than FDI.

Actually, in India, we do not have dual nationality yet massive amount of money has been stowed away by politicians in off shore accounts. It was a key Modi promise to bring it back. Sadly we all know how it goes. Not much returned to India.
I don't agree wrt dual nationality. Focus of government should be promoting industrialization and increasing exports not remittance. It's work in progress and results are showing with goods export crossing 400 billion. Hopefully the trend continues and CAD remains manageable.

Diaspora can always contribute and will always be welcome. But dual nationality can not be allowed and voting rights must not be given to people with a different nationality

.
If dual nationals are not allowed to vote then why do our Generals after retirement move to foreign lands? Why are leaders always in London and Dubai? Such double standards. If they're are so patriotic then live and die in Pakistan and then apply this on dual nationals. I would understand it then.

At its core, its nothing but petty political gains, ego and jealousy among certain parts of government. Current government in Pakistan knows ex-PM IK will gain from votes by overseas Pakistani so they will screw larger interest of the nation.

Common people will be sold the idea that dual nationality leads to divided loyalty (as if politicians like them are loyal to anyone but themselves) and so they will prevent voting rights.
Half these MNAs and government ministers have dual nationalies or their spouses and children are dual nationals and even full foreign nationals, not to mention the ikamahs of the PMLN leadership and cabinet.
Most of them have foreign assets and bank accounts yet overseas Pakistanis are denied their right to vote for having dual citizenship on the pretence of dual nationality.
Well let me tell you that overseas Pakistanis are far more loyal, patriotic and sensitive to Pakistan than any of these so called politicians that are taking away their right to vote.

.
Why target only dual-national overseas Pakistanis only? How about laws for no retirement or owning assets(including immediate family members) in foreign countries if you ever hold higher office or military ranks in Pakistan. There is an obvious potential conflict of interest with that as well.

False. In 2020 remittances went down globally by 2.4% (https://www.statista.com/chart/20166/top-10-remittance-receiving-countries/).

India got slightly less remittance in 2020.

Thats south asian democracy for you, Each of these politicians have massive offshore funds. Look at the number of high end cars found in Rajpaksha's son's house. And then they preach patriotism and loyalty to masses which stupid people imbibe entire hook line and sinker.

The question is why? Whats the reason besides jealousy?

On one hand you have politicians who have moved massive amount of funds outside India but they are elected by Indians. On another you have people who send money to India to keep India afloat otherwise all this forex reseve RBI is building will evaporate in thin air (https://thewire.in/economy/india-balance-of-payments-forex-reserves-debt).

Its funny that people feel more comfortable with thieves compared to forex earners. Infiriority complex works in weird ways.

Its funny that people find solace in hope and not in facts.

I support this. Why should people with state secrets be allowed to live in foreign lands? I gurantee they sell secrets and info for money.

What jealousy... People moved out and took citizenship of another country. They do not deserve any special privilege. Why should they be allowed to vote when result of their votes might impact livelihood of people who actually stay in India ? Where does this question of jealousy come from ? Remittances are not a favor to anyone other than their own family members. Overseas people are not being forced by anyone else to send money. They should stop gloating about it. Especially considering the fact that atleast half of remittance come from people living in gulf and they have no such illusion of "keeping India afloat". They send money to help their families.

400 billion goods export is a fact. ~600 Billion forex reserve is another fact.. Hopefully this crosses Trillion Dollar mark in 5-6 years. ( This is not fonding solace in "hope", but optimistic projection ). Don't think bureaucrats in North block would hardly care if these so called "forex earners " decide to send couple of billions less . Those days are long gone.

Covid was a one time phenomenon. Even during Covid, initial projection from WB was steep 20% decline. However for low and medium income countries, the decline was 1.6 percent.

"Remittance flows tend to be more stable than capital flows, and they tend to be countercyclical—increasing during economic downturns or after a natural disaster when private capital flows tend to decrease."

Overseas Pakistanis are just as patriotic as Pakistanis within Pakistan. However, there is a vast divide in their views and the views of those who are living in Pakistan and that is a Problem.

I am a dual citizen and by law I am bound to either vote in the Australian elections or be held liable for financial penalty/fine. As long as I have lived in Pakistan, I have never voted in any of the Australian elections simply because of my disconnect with Australia and hence I feel that I am not a good judge of who would be better for Australia. The overseas Pakistanis need to understand this simple logic; their disconnect does not mean that they are any less patriotic, it is just that they are more aware of the situation of their residence as opposed to that of Pakistan.

Judging by the numbers of people out on the streets on Pakistan, I'd say overseas Pakistanis are very well connected to the situation in Pakistan.
If anything, I'd venture that they have been ahead of the curve.

Ofcourse! Their money is minted by conferences where they tell stories. These conferences are front for the much bigger devil in backstage: intelligence agencies.
