Pakistan-Bangladesh ‘Jt business, economic councils meetings soon’

Pakistan High Commissioner Alamgir Babar has announced that Pakistan-Bangladesh Joint Business Council and Joint Economic Council meetings would be held in Islamabad soon, a press release of Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka said.

The Pakistani envoy disclosed this while he was visiting the 14th Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) 2009 at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the city Sunday. "A delegation from Bangladesh is expected to visit Pakistan very soon to attend the meetings," the statement added.

It said the High Commissioner offered Bangladesh to use Pakistan as a transit point for its exports to Afghanistan and other Central Asian countries. He stated that Bangladesh knitted fabric and woolen sweater could have a good market in the Central Asian countries if the opportunities are availed by Bangladeshi exporters.

Mr. Alamgir Babar said that Trade Authority of Pakistan and Export Promotion Bureau of Bangladesh enjoy excellent relations and DITF will further strengthen this relationship.

The Pakistani envoy visited various pavilions and stalls and appreciated the variety and quality of products on display and met with the exhibitors attending the fair.

He was particularly happy to note that the Federation of Pakistani Chambers of Commerce and Industry has the biggest pavilion at the DITF and more than 60 Pakistani companies are taking part in the event.

The High Commissioner thanked Export Promotion Bureau of Bangladesh for facilitating participation of Pakistan exporters and assured continuous support and assistance from the High Commission in Dhaka for promoting bilateral trade between the two countries.

I think BD should be grateful to Pakistan for this proposal. I hope it comes off and that business between the countries improve.

This is good for both countries and the relations will also improve between BD and PAK.

This is amazing really. Central Asian economies will become reliant on trade through Pakistan, and thus the whole region will see increasing Pakistani influence.

No need for military bases...

India doesn't have any land borders with Central Asia, and this will essentially make Pakistan the regional power there.

Win win situation to me. Both country will enjoy the frout from this outcome. I think they should immediately establish direct route between pak-bangladesh from karachi to chitagang port to increse trade and tourism. A lot bangaleshi will visit to pakistan to see Lahore at least.........

Great news!!, Also, UnitedPak, your views look hopeful and realistic, our location and our connection to central Asia can indeed play a big role in the future, if only our leaders know how to exploit it.
I hope to read more good news between Pakistan and Bangladesh.

I know about hasin and her extra love for a specific country but I think business comunity can influence to make this happen. They have strong presensce. lisen if we make our relation better with pakistan than there is a big market in afgan and other central asian region. This will also bost tourism industry. Lahore is a must place to see. It will take you to the Mughal era.......:enjoy:

the question is will india allow bangladesh to access pakistan?? if u use sea route that will not really be feasible. ull loose the compatitiveness after payin the shipping charges.
pakistan still havent allowed india to use her land route for trade purposes. good only meant for charity are allowed to pass through.
anyways its a great offer. i hope bangladesh can also use gwadar for trade purposes. that is much closer to central asian markets. karachi is busy and also not that close.

The Indians are not going to be happy about this, they have always been bitc**** about getting transit from Pakistan. But a good way to piss off India :D
