Pakistan to install air defence system at Pak-Afghan border

Such decisions take time to implement its not a simple case of taking some missiles to the border ... there has to be coordination mechanism in place so that we don't have a 'blue on blue' situation , worst of all what if we hav allowed Americans to come in and do operations in our land as they please ! .... secret agreements ...while we bash Americans in public ... guess who is to blame ?

Lazy Pakistan air force.:hitwall:

Only PAF can shoot down the apache..
the other way round is for pakistan to stop fuel supply to ISAF..No plane of helicopter can fly without fuel...and sll fuel goes through pakistan.
does pakistan still need to shoot them down ;)

This is a silly arguement , Fuel could be sourced from other borders too ! truth is PAF needs to have Air defense on its borders

Good thinking BY the loyal Pak thinkers should have done this long time ago...Ur real friend is the 1 who has same enemies as you have !!

Do put The Air defence But at the same time Cut all the Nato supply thru pakistan take all the air bases back and show them the "middle finger"!!! period!! N tell them if they cross the line again there head will be chopped into such small peaces that it would be close to impossible to be able to count the peaces!!!No other way...1 need to understand the thinking of white man!! the game of 1 step forward and 2 steps back Should be stopped !

I think you're seeing too many Hollywood movies. Come out of your trance and get real.

But I agree where you said, "Show them the middle finger." But then that's all you can do! "Chopping them into small pieces" is 3rd degree hallucination!

lol let them attack and see what happens we fought india in 3 wars and kargil but india despite possesing 4 times more military power and 6 times more population india waas the first to go to UN to beg for a cease fire but america cant do anything because a problem with their supply

I repost part of my earlier post here. We need modern SAM's as without them Pakistan will always be a sitting duck:

In the view of new events, it has become urgent that Pakistan acquire some modern air defense systems that give blanket protection for the whole of the country in an integrated smart network fashion.

These are some of the options that are readily available to Pakistan as well as being highly capable:

FD-2000 (HQ-9) system strategic SAM capable of countering fighters, bombers, UAV's, helicopters, AWACS, Transporters, Cruise missiles and with some Anti-Stealth and Anti-Ballistic capability, (Range: 125 Km):

HQ-9-TELs+HT-233-Engagement-Radar-2S.jpg

For point defense such as specific areas, buildings, bases and check posts in addition to long range coverage of FD-2000, Pakistan can acquire this system:

LD-2000 CIWS: Close point air defense, Capable of countering fighters, bombers, UAV's, helicopters, Precision guided munitions as well as C-RAM capability. 30 mm Gatling SPAAGM: (Range: 3 Km)

LD-2000-Brochure-1S.jpg

The systems are Chinese and can be acquired very easily besides they are cheap. Pakistan just needs perhaps 12 of these FD-2000 with a range radius of 125 Km to give complete coverage of entire nation. At the cost of less than 100 million dollars a piece (S-300PMU costs 150 million) and with a brotherly Chinese concession it would perhaps cost about a billion dollar to get 12 systems. LD-2000 costs perhaps less than 2 million dollars a piece and 500 of those would again cost another billion dollar. Total cost of giving a superb air defense for Pakistan is two billion dollars. Not very expensive. Besides China delivers it quick to Pakistan over a year or max two. Consider this:

Just like JF-17 program we can get Chinese loan of lets say 20 years to finance these system. With low Chinese interests that would come to just 10 million dollars a month. This amount is peanuts for Pakistan since it comes to just 0.18 cents per person per day or almost 0.16 Pakistani rupees or 16 Paisa per person per day. Even if we tax only coca cola and pepsi by one additional rupee it will be enough to give Pakistan complete air defense coverage.

It is not only for today that we need such a system. Because such a system coverage over all of Pakistan also goes a long way to counter Indian threats as well. All that for a small price.

So u think PAk Nato battle will be 1 side thing !!!!!!!! are u day dreaming? or you just trying to be attention seeker by coming up with some sort of stupid statements...Pakistan can produce miracles ones we decide.. Neto will never dare to come close to pakistan's border if only pak sends clear and i mean veryy clear statement these white nations are very cowardly raised ....We are not defending our mother land by stones and sticks!!!
"After all our arch enemy is about 3 times bigger then us and trying his very best to bring pak down from past 60 odd years N it's not some hollywood movie this is reality"!!!!!!

Afghan border to get air defence weapons

Pakistan government has decided to deploy air defence weapons on the country’s border with Afghanistan to pre-empt fresh attacks as it re-evaluates the strategy for safeguarding its western borders from air raids, the Director General of Military Operations told the federal cabinet and the Senate’s defence committee on Thursday.

“After the Nov 26 Nato attack on two military checkposts in the Mohmand Agency, we fear an attack from the western border.

Hence a decision has been taken to deploy air defence weapons in that region,” a participant of one of the briefings told Dawn.

The briefings took place at a time when the violation of the country’s sovereignty had entirely changed the nature of already strained relations between Pakistan and US, leading to suspension of supplies to Nato forces and setting deadline for evacuation of the Shamsi airbase by Dec 11.

Maj Gen Ashfaq Nadeem, the DGMO, said it was in this background that the Chief of Army Staff, Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, had removed checks on hitting back without a prior approval of the top command in case of fresh incursions. He said that currently the posts were equipped with small weapons suitable for fighting insurgents and bunkers had also been set up.

Gen Nadeem said a coordination mechanism had been completely violated and there were reasons to believe that it was a planned attack, and not a mistake. He revealed that Pakistan had recalled 19 out of its 31 coordination officers for consultations.

Another participant recalled the DGMO pointed out that the Commander of International Security Assistance Force (Isaf), Gen John Allen, had met the army chief on Nov 26 day hours before the Mohmand checkposts were attacked. He said when the matter was taken up with Gen Allen the next day, he expressed ignorance.

“According to him (Gen Allen) no such attack was planned, giving rise to speculations that certain operations are conducted by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the Special Operation Forces on their own and about which Nato and Isaf are kept in the dark,” the DGMO was quoted as saying.

STRIKES RECALLED: Explaining the sequence of events, he said a post code-named Volcano was first attacked by two helicopter gunships at 12.15am on Nov 26. A nearby check post, code-named Boulder, hit back with 12.7mm anti-aircraft weapons and mortars after the Volcano check post was attacked.

He said the General Headquarters came to know about the incident at 12.35am. Subsequently, check post Boulder also came under attack and all communication was lost with both checkposts. But minutes before the disruption, Company commander Major Mujahid left for the Volcano and Boulder posts for an assessment of the situation. Unfortunately, the officer lost his life after the helicopters re-engaged.

Another officer sent later saved his life by sheltering in a bunker when he saw helicopters taking position again. He said the entire operation lasted almost two hours.

Gen Nadeem said the two posts were located at a place from where there had been no cross-border infiltration, although militant attacks from the other side had been frequent.

The two check posts, he maintained, could not be mistaken for militant havens as the other side had been given all information about the number of Pakistani posts and their locations. The men at the posts were uniformed and positions were well-defined.
The DGMO further said the Pakistan Army believed that Nato was monitoring the transmissions that night and knew they had hit Volcano checkpost.

DECEPTION: He said misleading information was provided to the Pakistan military from the outset. Just before the Nov 26 strike, a Pakistani officer at the regional tactical centre was informed by an American sergeant that their special forces had received indirect fire from Gora Pai, some 15 kilometres from Volcano post. And after seven minutes, a woman officer informed him that the fire had, in fact, come from Volcano, which had been hit in retaliation.

“It is not the first incident of its kind and in recent years it already has happened thrice.”

In reply to a question, Gen Nadeem said joint investigations had been carried out in the past as well, but vital information that could have helped reach a conclusion was never shared.

Alamgir Babar, an additional secretary at the Foreign Office, also attended the briefing.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has upgraded its air defence system on the Afghan border to make it capable of shooting down aircraft, after Nato strikes killed 24 Pakistani soldiers, a security official told AFP on Friday.

“Now we have a fully equipped air defence system on the Afghan border. It has the capability to trace and detect any aircraft,” the official in the northwestern city of Peshawar told AFP by telephone.
The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak to the media, said the step had been taken to avert air incursions from Afghanistan and to respond to any future air strikes.
“The system has also been upgraded to immediately respond after detecting any aircraft or helicopter and to shoot it down,” he added.
Pakistan shut its border to Nato supply convoys on November 26, the same day as the deadliest single cross-border attack of the 10-year war in Afghanistan.
The government also ordered the United States to leave the Shamsi air base in the southwest, widely reported as a hub in the covert CIA drone war against the Taliban and al Qaeda in Pakistan’s border area with Afghanistan.
Pakistan gave tacit support to the programme, but no US drone strike has been reported on Pakistani soil since November 17.
The November 26 attacks brought the fragile Pakistani-US alliance to a fresh low, already reeling from an American stealth raid that killed al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden near the Pakistani capital on May 2.
It was after that raid, conducted by US Navy SEALs who flew in from Afghanistan, that Pakistan first upgraded its defence systems on the border.
US President Barack Obama has expressed condolences over the November 26 border deaths, insisting it was not a “deliberate attack” by Nato as claimed by the Pakistani army.

Pakistan deploys air defenses to Afghan border

Maj. Gen. Ashfaq Nadeem was quoted Friday as saying the military feared future attacks.

Pakistan s head of military operations says the country has deployed air defense weapons to the Afghan border after NATO airstrikes last month killed 24 Pakistani soldiers.

Maj. Gen. Ashfaq Nadeem was quoted Friday as saying the military feared future attacks and the border posts were only armed with light weapons.

Earlier, Nadeem had briefed the federal Cabinet and the Senate s defense committee on the weapons deployment.

Pakistan and the U.S. have provided different accounts of why NATO aircraft attacked two army posts on the Afghan border before dawn on Nov. 26.

The Pakistan army has claimed the attack was pre-planned and deliberate an allegation denied by the United States.
