Pakistan to generate 50,000 MW of electricity per year - Dr Samar

It willnt happen my senior WAPDA relative told me; nothing is going to happen. Wait till some nuclear plants inaugurates.

What planet do some of you people live on.............Yes the Thar project is a very very useful project and can generate some serious amount of elevtricity........buut 50,000 MW, you for real..........it will achieve at best 5000 MW due ot the fact that coal needs to be extracted, although the last reasearch conducted showed that building a coal plant on the surface burning thr coal in situ is cheaper and quicker, nonetheless, it still requires a vast amount of steam pressure pipes powering through a generate or numerous generators. Electricity power of 23,000 Volts will up the voltage to 400,000 volts through this system, yet that needs to be generated in the first place, 50,000 MW is outof the question.........

Gazzi , read little about ABC of Electrical Engineering before writing crap :cheesy:

Dr Samar is right , dont belive on WAPDA stories , they are lazy and corrupt people.

We need foriegn investment to make this project sucessfull, which only possible if we have good government .

The fundamental problem of the power sector in Pakistan stems from the “viability gap” not power generation capacity. Power producers can meet our national demands only if everyone owns upto paying their dues. Currently there is huge disparity and unless the core issue is resolved, 500MW or 50000 MW wont matter.

Electricity shortage in Pakistan is around 3500MW in summer, it will be a great achievement if they reduce this gap to 1000MW by 2012. :undecided:

Dude !!
Thats was a predition !!

He also said, with the amount of coal, we can generate CHEAP electricity for 100+ years, and it would be as cheap, that if a family has its refridgerator and Air conditioners ON, then it it could cost them around 200-300 Ruppee MONTLY !!

The problem, ******************* Mafia leaders asking for commission or a no towards project !

listen to that idiot Hamid Mir he is a traitor saying that if pakistan lasted for 500 years like he think we wont last that long.
By the way congratulation to all Pakistanis and thank you Allah that you have blessed us with huge natural resources and great to hear from Dr. samar i Belive him atleast he is not some politician :pakistan::pakistan::pakistan:

Listen nerd brain if you have something good to add then please do so and explain your little comment........

The coal extracted has to be broken down to fine powder to allow it to be explosive enough as large chunks of coal is just not explosive enough (36000 tonnes of coal). This is then burnt and heated in a furnace/boiler roughly 5-10 storeys high flames at 2000 degress allowing it to vapourise water in high pressurised pipes which in turn is connected to a turbine made up of high grade steel which turns at speeds of Mach 1.6 (3000 rpm) a million Hp.

These turbines are connected to a shaft which are connected to a generator creating 23,000 volts of electricity.

Voltage measures the amount of electrons running through a wire and as such a transformer is used. The volts run through the ion core jumping from one core to the other increasing the voltage to 400,000 volts as when electricity jumps wire looser wires to tighter wires then electricity is incresed massively.

So Mohammed Yahya I do know quite a bit about this coal run plant why because here in the UK, in North Yorkshire the British have a plant called DRAX. Same theory adopted in Pakistan and only producing 4000 MW (7% of UK total output). hence your little fantasies of 50,000 MW would be equivalent to 85% of electricity produced in the UK.

There shear size of such a project is huge, which firstly reuiqres the ability to extract thousands of tonnes of coal then the ability to handle this coal and break it down and then feed it into the boiler. This in turn will require piping for steam to generate enough power to turn the turbines which in itself will need numerous turbines. Then the issue of generators is required. All of which requires massive investment. Running in billions of dollars.

Can we do such a things F*** yes, we were the same Nation who put all it resources building a nuclear bomb from scratch and we did it in record time. Electricity production is a necessity and as such Pakistan will achieve its goal Inshallah

Project is underway and added that within 3-4 months Pakistan would be able to generate 50,000MW energy from gas.

Yaaro OP mentioned article date Dec, 2010. 3-4 Months promised period already passed.

First thing to understand is that power generation always measured in MW .Always power generated at 18KV and then stepped up to 500KV or above for transmission for longer distance reason is that power losses will be less.
Thar coal can not be transported from one place to other , we need to develop technology to utilize the coal energy at same place .Dr Samar is working on pilot project to develop this technology .

First step shall be to convert coal into crude oil and than with crude oil power can be generated and diesel and pertrol can be extrated through refinery.

Thanks

in terms of validity one must believe WAPDA & not the educated ones like Mr Mubarak because this country never pay heeds to such...:cheesy:
