Salaam

IF there is any truth to it - the reasons are likely very simple.

The recent escalation with India showed that we could find ourselves in the middle of a shooting war with India at any time. We will not necessary get the chance to get Blk3 in the numbers we think we need to achieve our goals.

So if there is any truth to it, it is likely in response to the recent escalation which showed war could come without an appointment. We must be prepared.

We are discussing a news which doesn't have credible sources. Earlier this kind of rumours emerged and gone to history without getting anything like su-30/35 coming to Pakistan.
As for this current rumor their is many If whither Pakistan can or should get it. Like financial diplomatic and technically is it fesible to turn old mirage factory into mirage 2000 maintanence hub for providing support to this new baby .

It's a upgraded mirage 2009 which will be better then current mirage 3/5 operate by paf.

not going to happen
1. we will need full setup for them from scratch which means we will need atleast 36-48 old jets which will have to come from multiple sources
2. will need french blessing and upgrades which will not happen as india will press hard the french and there are billion of $$ of procurement coming in which india might punish the french
3. the cost is too much

if qatar-uae gives them for scratch prices and france asks for reasonable price and maintenance is setup at cheaper price even than question will be..why not block3!

Because of the scarcity of the most important element called "time".
How much time do you have before a war is forced on you and how many Block 3's will you be able to induct by then?

At the 2017 Dubai Air Show, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) announced that it would upgrade 42 Dassault Mirage 2000-9 and 79 Lockheed Martin F-16E/F Block-60 fighter aircraft.

Specific technical details of either upgrade were not provided at the time, but Forecast International (via Defense-Aerospace) recently reported that the UAE Air Force’s (UAEAF) Mirage 2000-9s will be configured with the Thales RDY-3 radar and TALIOS targeting pod.

In addition, Thales will execute a wide-ranging upgrade of the fighter’s onboard electronics, with planned changes to the “mission computers; fire control radars; electronic warfare suites; optronics systems; communications, navigation, and identification systems; cockpit displays; and helmet-mounted displays.”

Any logic why they would upgrade their fleet if they are about you to sell those fighters. Uae have 63 mirage, if Pakistan can get most of them in friendly price and French are ready to any future support Pakistan can get it . Of course money is the constrain .

dear, there are many senior pakistani posters who have expressed their views that this news is fake that Pak is going to buy these mirages from emirates...my post above was just to support it as just back in 2017 emirates was considering their fleet of Mirages with the latest avionics...so wondering why would they sell them to Pakistan, any logic?. I may be wrong, not all can have the same views!

expected total cost if we go for all of these??

They need to be at a bargain price to make any economic sense. I would say anything around $1.5 Billion for the whole lot would be good.

A potent bird that wouldn't cost us much as compare to integration of a whole new system due to infrastructure, support & getting familiar with.

However, haven't we had enough discussion in this regard before?

This discussion was done to death before, and the UAE is upgrading them. Are there any credible links to say that they are up for sale again and to the PAF as well?

I think Mirages may be a good addition; but I think we should only go for them if:

- French give us the ability to integrate local weapons on these e.g. Raad ALCM, H2/H4, Takbir REK etc.
- French are ready to help us setup local maintenance facilities so that we can operate these for some time to come like Mirage 3/5.

Precisely. Here we are talking on a subject that's been covered in the past. Lets forget the age of the jet, its capabilities, the spares, the fact France would have conditions, maintenance costs & :blah:

Are they truly up for Sale by the UAE?

Lets get past that hurdle, before we can go for the obvious if we want them or not. If we can afford them. What conditions France would impose.

Note: The UAEAF does have 60 of these Mirage-2000 in its current inventory, and have 30 Rafales on order. Maybe they are looking to replace them. Time will tell.

I've been reading about this since mid-2000's, so pardon me if I am skeptical.

IF it did materialise - it does make sense. These aircraft are from the mid-80's (like our F-16's), the Mirage 3 and % we operate are from the 60's. These aircraft are also a lot more capable that the Mirages we operate.

I can only see it happening as a stop gap and under the right opportunity (ie, they are sold very cheap and the Maintanance and infrastructure costs are low). Very similar to our F-16 procurements really.

My expectations of this being true - 1/10.
