Pakistan to ban Google

wow... sounds like this new minister is in a hurry to make an impact. Neither google or youtube are desperate to get themselves un-banned in Pakistan. Maybe minister should recognize Pakistan's market value for both these companies before giving out warnings!

Pakistan is a big country with almost 200million brains, it is awful that no one could develop a search engine that can rival google.

Also minister should knock the doors of US or any international court to file a petition against any thing that is objectional, instead of warning & banning this move will be good.

when china banned google, they had other chinese search engine rivals . So the chinese had other alternatives and google had more reason to comply to avoid losing its base to a rival.

that means China was capable to pose a stiff competition..in case of Pakistan it will literally cripple half the country. Youtube ban is harsh enough already.

Pakistan’s new IT minister has warned that Google could be blocked in the country if the company fails to remove blasphemous and objectionable material from its video—sharing website YouTube.

Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication Anusha Rahman Khan made the remarks on her first day in office yesterday while talking about Pakistan’s efforts to end a nine—month ban on YouTube for hosting clips from the controversial film “Innocence of Muslims”.

Google, the parent company of YouTube, had rejected requests from the previous Pakistan People’s Party—led government to remove the objectionable material and Ms. Khan said she hoped the company would listen to the new PML —N government.

“It all depends on our negotiation clout. If they persist with their stance, we can block Google in Pakistan as a last resort as there are many alternative search engines available on the web,” Ms. Khan was quoted as saying by The News daily.

i think blocking the objectionable links is a wiser option.....the better purpose of the internet can be solely served without the objectionable links as they wont be available.....

closing down and threatening google will only harm the upcoming future....because a major portion of the world now relies on it
