Pakistan: The Nation That Never Became Angry.

no it won't be and he (personally) is not responsible for this mess...

the mob won't care. this volunteer of debauchery is going to get immortalised.

the more the people make it one man versus all. the more extreme his end will be

Quite low blow to present an argument.

Why don't you understand the crux of the situation. It was never one versus all; it was all versus few. He sold or to rightly put, was asked to sell the dream.. He came with a single agenda. Anti-corruption. But the same establishment ditched the drive for "greater good" and did let go all the goons for "various not so un-declared reasons". So i ask again to ask the right questions.

Once he is done with. You can ask me this again.

If you stood up late last night and took him where he is, there were others who planned in the brightness of the day to drag him down from his lofty position

THIS my friend, is the never ending cycle, and will not allow Pakistan to reform and morph itself into a stable country. You are right.

Soon the establishment will be sending the likes of Jahangir Tareen to Dubai under the same program of premature retirement with full benefits. If Nawaz can go to UK, then why will Jahangir go to prison!?

Then will come the retirement of Shahbaz Sharif and friends; Zardari will die within a few months to a year, whereas we will be left with Maryam Nawaz and Bilawal to lead, not Pakistan, but the family obligation of dynastic exploitation.

This time is only a few years away.

Lemme sum up;

shahzeb jatoi, uzair baloch, gen. Kiyani and his brother, Ifitkhar Ch. and his son, Nawaz and his family, Zardari and his family, Sahiwal's incident, Colonel ki biwi, Malik riaz, his retired partners and his family. Rao anwar, uzair baloch, mian mansha, yousuf raza gilani.... just few from last two decades. Look for pattern and common denominator.

That's what it is.... that's the story.

And here @El Sidd is arguing about imran khan... what to say. Laga raho...

.
Look for pattern and common denominator.

I'm with you. Its time to question that common denominator. Ignore the people for whom their thinking starts with Z.A Bhutto and ends with Imran Khan. They fail to realize the bigger picture and show their fallacies and lack of wisdom with every sentence they write or speak.

So what do you think the common denominator is ? I shall give you my opinion on what I think it is and as the title of the thread says why pakistanis have failed to get angry.

In my opinion the main reason is the mad mullahs faction, who from the very outset never wanted pakistan to exist and have done everything in their power to harm pakistan. Let me explain, who are the main demographic that follow the mad mullahs, it's mainly young men from working class and lower middle class.

The mad mullahs keep the heat off the corrupt politicians by making the young men focus on 2 groups of people, mainly women and minorities. That's why you see young men spewing hate against women especially what women wear and minorities who the mullahs have convinced them are committing the imaginary offence of blasphemy.

The one demographic which has not only been let down by successive governments, but the one demographic mostly likely to rise up against corrupt politicians is kept pacified by the mad mullahs and encouraged to direct their anger and frustrations on 2 groups who can't fight back.

I have never seen the mad mullahs and their deluded followers go after corrupt politicians never mind perform a honour killing of these corrupt politicians in the last 73 yrs. Yet they have directed their followers to kill people like Salman taseer and others.

I honestly would not be surprised if secretly these mad mullahs were on the pay role of said corrupt politicians. The way I see it the mad mullahs and the corrupt politicians have worked hand in glove to keep the status quo from changing. The corrupt politicians never go after these mad mullahs and they in turn never go after the corrupt politicians.

That's why nothing changes and the one group of people who has the most chance of bringing forth change is kept distracted and pacified whilst the corrupt politicians loot the country with impunity.

.
Within democracy, Pakistan has many supreme leaders.

Each one of the political idol is a supreme leader to his followers.

Well there you have it, while most Pakistanis are enslaved to such mentality, I on the other hand am not.

Very very true

you divided the country based on a fake promise (that you never were serious about )..... hence it was natural that you would fail ..... now revert it back and unite it to the original one country it was ..... THINK .... we all combined are THE ECONOMIC POWER that would match any in the world .... two nuclear states combined .....

So a former Civil servant wrote an article on DAWN on exactly the things I outlined in the original post on the first page. I would strongly recommend PDF members to read this article and understand the current directionless state of Pakistan.

A blessing for some

IT is not every day that one feels like writing but today is one: to thank the prime minister for advising us to watch the Turkish TV show Dirilis:Ertugrul. It has not only rekindled one’s interest in Islamic history and kept one suitably occupied during this Covid-19-ordered ‘house arrest’, but has also mercifully kept one away from the daily tripartite slanging matches on TV between the same faces, discussing the same topics ad nauseam.

While Ertugrul may have lessened the boredom of confinement, Covid-19 has been for Imran Khan what the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan was for Gen Zia and 9/11 was for Gen Musharraf. Zia’s tottering regime was given a shot in the arm with the invasion in 1979; the resultant world sympathy helped him rule comfortably for the next nine years. Musharraf turned from a villain to a darling of the West after 9/11 when he conceded more than they had asked for, and ruled for the next six years. Similarly, the PTI government — which was tottering earlier this year, with most people expecting a change in weeks — is now in complete control, thanks to the distraction of Covid-19.

The PTI government is now in complete control.

There is little debate on the government’s handling of the economy, or the provinces’ inept governance, since the nation is riveted on a single issue. Criticism is focused on issues like the poor handling of the maulvis, hasty relaxation of the lockdown, and not letting Sindh do its job. These the government can credibly answer, rather than bigger issues of poor governance, piling debt, halting development activities etc, for which it had no real answers.

The PTI’s performance in handling the pandemic looks okay, because criticisms of this government are exactly the same as criticisms of most governments around the world: inadequate health capacity, indecisive decision-making in the lockdown-vs-economy debate, etc. Further, the government has adopted a smart approach; its machinery takes decisions based on data while the prime minister announces his views independently, based on gut feeling and populist politics. Though the confusion provides mirth for his critics, the prime minister speaking like an opposition leader by constantly referring to the plight of the common man is taking the wind out of the opposition’s sails and improving his political standing.

The good news is that the establishment continues to be on the same page as the government, The Punjab chief minister seems to have woken up, and the opposition is on the run, with Asif Zardari’s health engaging the PPP and continual corruption cases against the PML-N keeping them on the back foot. So, one can say with some confidence that the PTI government is on its way to complete its full five-year term. The worrying thought is that one sees these five years as being no different from the previous 10 combined years of the PPP and PML-N, ie directionless and without impact.

During his long struggle for power and his two years in government, Imran Khan’s single-item agenda has been corruption. We see in this time that NAB has arrested scores of politicians, making a lot of noise. The Supreme Court set aside all routine matters and concentrated on ‘trying’ Sharif for 163 days. All significant politicians and their frontmen have spent months in NAB custody. JITs have been formed with the best resources to dig out prosecutable evidence. But the end result is the conviction of only Nawaz Sharif who is sitting in the comfort of an apartment bought through allegedly corrupt practices in London. The rest, after having gone through the virus-fighting stage, have become practically immune.

Whether we achieve herd immunity against Covid-19 or not, we have achieved herd immunity against corruption in Pakistan. No corrupt person fears anything as long as he can hire good lawyers, knows the weaknesses of the system and has the patience to let the storm pass. The corrupt in Pakistan, with almost zero conviction rate, have never been more confident; having beaten the system, leaving people who hoped that Khan would demolish this scourge disappointed and fearful of the future.

Similarly, the other panacea offered was that people would start paying their taxes once they see the government is not corrupt. What has actually happened is that in the PML-N’s last year in office they collected Rs3,842 billion with a 14 per cent increase over the previous year, while the present government’s target for 2019-20 (usually missed) is only Rs3,908bn, less than what targets were two years ago. Taking normal increase due to inflation, there is perhaps 20pc less tax collection from when the present government took over.

So with corruption and poor tax collection the same if not worse, and no major nation-building initiative in education and health on the cards, it looks we will be remaining a purana Pakistan — minus the hope we had two years ago.

Agreed with every point.after seeing pti performance i am totally disappointed.we have no options left or any alternative of ppp pmln and pti.
We cannot rely on establishment also because they are the one who gave nro and still doing same thing.
We have no ethics as nation.our people never protest against oppression.they follow their corrupt leaders blindly and dont ask them harsh questions.
A black man,s death from police bring out people on the streets in the America but here nobody will think about a incident like this on second day.
IK got into government by adding lots of corrupt politicians from other parties. that diluted the party and how can one man do everything.. I believe IK's intentions are good but he cannot do everything by himself.
if Pakistan wants a change then IK needs to look abroad and bring back overseas Pakistanis who are professional and capable. we also need very harsh laws.

How will those expats cope up with the harsh environment of Pakistan? How will we tell a person who came to Pakistan after working 10 years with Google, that you should allow export of sugar on-paper so that we can keep the businessmen happy by giving them billions in subsidy.

How will we tell them that they need to work for a federal government which has zero budget and power because all of the money is now going to the provinces.

How will we tell them that we must only focus on curbing corruption in opposition and not address lack of governance. ( I will give credit to the current govt. for the sugar commission which is now also eliminating corrupt persons within the party).

We not only need harsh laws but also need to have strong governance to implement the policies. Overseas Pakistanis will be no help to Pakistan if such disorder continues. Our culture of corruption and procrastination has to go but it is only possible if we have a single authority in the country.

At this moment the establishment has never been more political, the parliament cannot legislate due to lack of special majority of the PTI government. The other political parties do not want the current government to make any progress hence there is zero cooperation amoung the parliamentarians and they all end up looking like monkeys. The Judiciary does not let go of any opportunity to further their own relevance in the politics.

I think the the most formidable power in Pakistan needs to concentrate the power by forming a presidential form of government led by, not necessarily IK but some other person who could help bring all the provinces together and work for the national interest of Pakistan.

The current system of Pakistan which is just a political/administrative stand-still. This must change quickly, or we are looking at a broken/fragmented Pakistan, a decade into the future.
