Well even if I agree with you that Pakistan was formed to only protect Muslims (in 1947) still what Jinnah said/wanted is not carved in stone. Pakistan state should do what the majority Pakistani's want today. And that is a Islamic country for Islam and Sharia as a rule of law. I don't think there can be any disagreement on that.

Actually this is still a matter of debate within Pakistan after 7 decades.

This basic confusion has wrought disastrous results already and will likely continue doing that till it is resolved once and for all.

Probably Mr. Jinnah should have made himself more clear. At present both sides ("Pakistan for Islam" and "Pakistan for Muslims but meant to be secular") think he was on their side.

Goes on to show the kind of jahils hiding behind the flag of Islam in the world today. Now basically candidates will be tested for their knowledge in Islam. What a perfect way to create a mullahcracy. Thanks to the mullahs we are in a mess everywhere we go. No one bothers to stop the mullah from impinging on peoples right to be themselves.

Religion is a personal matter between God and man. No one has the right to judge another over how much or how little the person follows Islam. We should adopt secular theory and be done with it.

It has nothing to do with mullahcracy. Every pakistani muslim should be able to recite Quran, i am surprised some of the candidates were not able to recite simple quran sura.
The returning officers should ask more deeper questions about basics of islam.

How will memorising Koran verses help in governance? I may know the whole periodic table by heart but that will not make me a great chemist?
