KARACHI: The price list for tickets of Pakistan Super League final in Karachi has been issued according to which tickets are available in four denominations starting from Rs 1000.

Preparations for the March 25 final are in full swing at the National Stadium Karachi (NSK), while the ticket sale would start from 15th.

Tickets for general enclosure are available for Rs 1000; Asif Iqbal, Waqar Hasan and Majid Khan enclosures for Rs 4000; Special Children, Quaid, Wasim Akram and Imran Khan enclosures for Rs 8000; and Hanif Mohammad, Fazal Mehmud and Javed Miandad enclosures for Rs 12000.

On Monday, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi said that the PSL final will be held in Karachi and if it doesn’t happen in Karachi then it won’t be held anywhere else.

“My response will not change due to persistent questioning. The final of PSL will be held in Karachi and if it is not held in Karachi then it will not be held anywhere else,” said Sethi while speaking to media here at the NSK during a visit to review renovation work.

Repair and renovation is under way at the stadium. It had been reported that the work was not progressing as scheduled and might not be completed in time.

However, Sethi said that the work would be completed at the most by March 15. He criticised previous PCB chiefs, saying they even failed to prepare for the return of international cricket to Pakistan.

Nawaz backs Quetta to avenge Multan defeat

DUBAI: Quetta Gladiators’ star all-rounder Muhammad Nawaz, who has continued his impressive form in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), is eyeing a scalp against leaders and newcomers Multan Sultans.

Multan outplayed Quetta the last time these two teams clashed against each other and Nawaz is looking to avenge that nine-wicket defeat.

“This format favours the batsmen and that means the bowlers have to work really hard if they want to trouble the batsmen,” said Nawaz, while talking to The Express Tribune. “If a bowler continues to bowl at a good line and length then it helps restrict the batsmen and that is the best you can hope for.”

Nawaz revealed the amount of work and effort that goes into preparing for a match. “We practice for a match keeping the opposition in mind,” he said. “I personally research about all the weak and strong areas of every batsman by watching their videos. I then try to target the weaker areas of the batsmen. Bowling at the right time to the right batsmen at the right line and length is what helps me claim wickets.”

Multan may have already shown why they are considered by many to be standout favourites to win the PSL while Quetta have struggled in the tournament so far but Nawaz believes they have what it takes to defeat the leaders, especially since they now face them in Dubai as compared to Sharjah.

“The pitch behaves differently in Dubai as compared to Sharjah,” he said. “I personally feel that bowling is easier in Dubai and I am confident that I can trouble the Multan batsmen more in Dubai than what I did in Sharjah. We will be doing our best to claim the two points against a difficult Multan side.”

The left-arm spinner believes that Quetta need their pacers to step up to the plate since they are the ones who have to bowl during the crucial death overs of a match.

“Fast-bowlers have several options that they can rely upon when bowling at the death,” he said. “They have both bouncers and yorkers to turn to. A spinner cannot bounce out a batsman or surprise him with the shorter pitched stuff so our element of surprise is significantly reduced. I still practice bowling during the death overs since that has helped me improve my skills further and I have learned a few tricks that have improved my confidence.”

Very boring not just psl but other leagues too. 20-20 cricket needs a stoppage.

Quetta Glad won by 2 wickets (with 1 ball remaining)

Quetta Gladiators 156 for 8 (Rossouw 27, Raja 22, Umar Gul 6-24) beat Multan Sultans 152 for 5 (Malik 65*, Maqsood 27) by two wickets
Scorecard and ball-by-ball details

A thrilling contest got the finish it deserved, with teenager Hasan Khansmashing Kieron Pollard for six off the penultimate ball to sealing a much-needed two-wicket win for Quetta Gladiators. Multan Sultans had looked like they were slightly ahead for much of the Quetta's 152 chase, only to pipped at the end. This came despite a superb vintage performance from Umar Gul, who took 6 for 24 in his first game this season.

Multan's first innings total owed much to its skipper Shoaib Malik, who blazed an unbeaten 43-ball 65 after they had lost Kumar Sangakkara off the first ball. Quetta's bowlers kept the batsmen in check for the first 15 overs, Mohammad Nawaz and Rahat Ali in particular hitting their targets to ensure there would be no repeat of the massive total Multan amassed against Peshawar on Tuesday. But 57 were scored off the last five as Quetta, much like Peshawar, lost their discipline and composure towards the death overs.

Quetta's innings began on track before a quick double-strike by Gul removed both openers either side of the 50-run mark. The game remained evenly poised for much of the chase, but the early dismissal of an off-colour Kevin Pietersen was a huge blow for last year's finalists. Cameos from Rilee Rossouw and Rameez Raja Jnr kept them in the hunt, with Anwar Ali, and at the very end Hasan, sealing the win in a massive heist.

Where the match was won

While the early loss of their openers meant Multan spent their Powerplay regrouping, Quetta's opening pair gave them a fast start that kept them in touch with the asking rate for the best part of their chase. Shafiq and Watson put on 46 without loss for the first Powerplay, the most runs Multan have conceded in the first six so far. They may have lost both of them soon after, but the start meant they had a margin for error, and by the time the lower middle order began to regroup, the asking rate wasn't yet insurmountable. That was in stark contrast to Multan's first six. They were reduced to 3 for 2 by the end of the first two overs, and sent in Sohail Tanvir to try and up the ante. That didn't quite work either, and they ended up with 35 by the time the fielding restrictions were lifted. In a close contest, those 11 runs made all the difference.

The men that won it

Not many people get the chance to bookend a game like Hasan did. He took a catch to remove Sangakkara first ball at short midwicket. Nearly 40 overs later, he smashed Pollard for six off the penultimate delivery to seal a framatic win. He didn't have a great deal to do in the middle, but was stellar when called upon, conceding just nine runs in the two overs of left-arm spin he bowled. With the bat, he didn't even breach double figures, but his nine runs off three balls is guaranteed to be a more famous innings than the 65 Malik smashed earlier on.

Vintage Umar Gul

Gul rolled back the years with a scintillating performance, becoming only the second player in PSL history - after Ravi Bopara - to take six wickets in a match. It began with the removal of the openers, and he returned to remove opposition captain Sarfraz with the first ball of his second spell, swinging the game back in his side's favour. By the end of three overs, his figures read a mightily impressive 3-0-11-4. His last over was the definition of a mixed bag, as the two sixes he conceded brought Quetta right back into the game, although the two wickets he took - taking his tally to six and his overall T20 tally to 200 wickets - seemed to have edged Multan back ahead. You're unlikely to see a better bowling performance end up on the losing side all season.

Where they stand

Multan are still at the top of the table with nine points, but second-placed Karachi have two games in hand. Quetta, meanwhile, go from 5th to 4th, having won three of six games.

A new Afridi in town — PSL

Multan Sultans won the toss and opted to bat first against Lahore Qalandars in the 20th fixture of the Pakistan Super League 2018 in Sharjah on Friday

With nothing having worked for the Qalandars so far in the tournament, captain Brendon McCullum rolled the dice once again, this time opening the bowling with another part-time off-spinner Agha Salman.

Whatever the plan was it didn't work as the Sultans' opening pair of Kumar Sangakkara and Ahmed Shehzad did pretty much what they wanted in the first 8 overs, giving their side an opening stand of 61, of which 45 were contributed by the Sri Lankan.
