Apparently the news is coming from PAF sources and I think the chances are more for J-16 than Su35 which was mostly by the pdf members and based on some interests. Though the officials confirmation is not available but this is one source which bhartis can't meddle with. The chance if this deal are higher because Pakistan can get a soft loan from China and pay it on longer term basis while for Su35 PAF needs hard cash which apparently they don't have. JF-17, J-16 and J-31 will share some systems and integration will perhaps be easier if the same architecture and PL has been used. And J-16 is really a truck and will be suited for deep penetration in india and also for the maritime roles.

J16 is a nightmare for there carrier and SAM system. I think India will retaliate China if we give PAF J16. It can shift the regional pivot.

Are you out of your mind ,,, 20 billion dollar just for 3 to 4 squadrons of twin engines ... You must be smooking some very hard stuff ... there is a difference but of merely few million dollars in terms of running cost ...

Twin engine decision is not cost based (definitely cost is one of the consideration but not the main) ... Its doctrine based ... Pakistan never intended to strike deep down in the enemy territory but now with lot of heavies Pakistan needs to have aircraft with greater loiter time ... Pakistan has not finalized decision whether it will go for twin engine or single engine but nowadays all modern air superiority fighters (except for F35 and J10) are twin engine


Agreed ... but we need to acquire it in very short term as we have 3 years max before delivery and integration of Rafaels ... I personally think that if we have J31 available around 2020 then we should go directly for J31 as it will limit our numbers of aircraft to 3 and we can induct J31 in numbers too ... Meanwhile we will complete the inductionof J17 ... After that we can think of replaement of F16 post 2025 with more advance platform ...

Akash is a failed system and Vietnam will never pose a threat to China despite its posturing since
they can't survive even a hypothetical low intensity conflict with China so Akash or no Akah..won't make much of a difference rather they will waste some money..

but J16 will definitely make a difference.

No I wanted to say overall budget should be increased...twin engines have real high cost maintenance ..our sukhois and migs actually need high maintenance which increases there running cost...and as you mentioned few millions ..just because of few millions pakistan coyld not get f16 a year back when US refused to pay up

The capabilities are impressive but What is the operational cost of J16?

Those J10 crashed with Russian AL31FN, not WS13. WS13 is only for JF17 and FC31.

There are three main factors that determine the lethality of a stealth plane:

1. Stealth (RCS + Heat signature).
2. EW/ECCM.
3. Weapons package.

All of these work together to avoid BFM. Some of them (like designing the curves to reduce RCS) are contradictory with maneuverability. If you want to discuss BFM, you might as well invest your money in a high maneuverability aircraft rather than a stealth aircraft. When we say we want the PAF to go for J-31, we are basically supporting stealth over maneuverability.

How can you say 'modern radars that the russians and chinese have can easily detect stealth aircrafts'? Where is your source for this? And how can you be sure that India will have such radars?

heat signature is only possible to reduce with not using afterburner.... for that j-31 need supercruising ability....
