Pakistan should acquire Altay Tanks from Turkiye?

Turkey is a friendly country for Pakistan. Tank development is an area in which both have some experiences, Turkey arguably has more experience in some subsystems and areas, and Pakistan in others. For example, as Turkey manufactures a number of armoured track vehicles, their experience in this might be more. We could possibly collaborate and come to terms that are mutually beneficial.

Pakistan and Turkey are both looking to improve their indigenous manufacturing capabilities, and just buying pre-built products from a foreign vendor is unappealing to us both.

Either Pakistan develop Al-Khalid 2 which may take many years and accumulate many expenses or Pakistan could acquire the Altay MBT platform in few years time.

Is it possible after acquiring Altay MBT, Pakistan could get transfer of technology and begin domestic manufacturing of the Altay MBT after license is acquired, of course a major deal has to be struck here but possibility is there.

no, the development of AK-II wont take YEARS once PA decides that it is the right time to go for it.
most of Pakistan defense expenditures are made keeping India in mind and the best India have to offer in this category is T-90. the Al-Khalid upgrade, know as AK-I is on par with the best India have to offer so for PA to go for AK-II India will have to come up with something better.

going for a purchased item wont be helpful as it will be expensive. when we can make something home and make it good, there is no point in going for import!
in fact, Turkey is seeking some assistance from Pakistan for there tank project.

one thing is however possible and necessary, we should work is close coordination in further tank projects, that will be good for both countries.

regards!

Sir Pakistan is already working on AL Khalid II sir

yes, the pre production homeowrk is complete. the subsystems are also being considered and evaluated. all that is required is to put all these things together to roll out the tank but this wont happen once we have threat from something better. at present PA is satisfied and happy with AK-I. also PA plan to induct around 1200 Ak and only yhen the Ak-II will come into play (only if the indian get something better by that time)

The basic flaw in this tank v/s tank theory is that this tank battle is most probably a thing of past..Now a days if India has to counter an incoming battalion of Pakistani tanks, it will deploy a squad of LCH armed with anti-tank missile as first line of defence..Same goes for Heli. v/s Heli...

Pakistan needs to proceed with AK-2 , it may take more time and in short run may not look feasible but don't forget about the long term benefits it will provide us. Local production and in-house capability is like no other thing in the world. You can develop something form the scratch according to your requirements plus the ease to increase production when time requires not only that but the export factor also , you can export them and by the the money you earn you can further invest it in another tank project and keep on adding that, also it can help in boosting your economy

Another important aspect is the influence you get on other countries by exporting such equipmet

Sir if Pakistan can but any latest TANK with TOT it will also produce locally and also will give us latest Technology

It is a major step up over our current imports. This tank will be vital in bringing in western technology to Pakistan. I say we go for it and scrap the Al Zarrars. Imagine this tank head to head with the Indian Arjun in the desert.

A very bad idea

pak should never go for any foriegn MBT.

this will stop the upgradation of indegenous AK further variants

as we know the AK1 is in service which has all the goodies a modern MBT has

this is also rumoured that Ak2 will have 1500hp
a normal T/w ratio is set probablly between 25hp/ton or at max 28.5 hp/ton

let suppose if we power the AK1 of 48 ton with 1500hp engine it will create over powered problems for AK as even the tracts might seperate because of over speed or it might create many problem

so in return we will increase the weight of AK2 to atleast 55-58ton so that it have a t/w ratio of around 27-28hp/ton which is very decent

with 55-58ton weight means a high protected armor like challenger or merkava.
it is also said that ak2 will have a redesigned turret like type99a2 which means the turret of ak2 might be very similer to the turkish atlay
the ak2 will have a indegenous aps system and also fcs.

overall

with 55-58ton weight
1500hp engine(possibly german or the south korean or chineese)
indegenous 125mmgun
indegenous electronics including the aps system
atgm firing capability
only concept copied turret design of type99a2

pakistan transferred composite armor tot to turkey so both might have same armor
the ak2 will be 90% indegenous except the engine part so we can export it to any country

it will be our own tank..it might take atleast 5 more years as it is yet in earlt stages of development..

and with all these goodies i think in performance atlay and Ak2 will be 50 50 bt ak2 will have home made and many more advantage over atlay for pakistan.also ak2 is mature platform with already a production capability

indian Arjun!!!?

Pakistan could use the Altay tanks in specialized tank units. As for the suggestion that importing Altay MBT would halt indigenous development of AK2, I disagree with that. If Pakistan can get transfer of technology PA can incorporate the technology in AK2, helping to speed up Ak2 developments. Even if ToT isn't received Pakistani engineers maybe able to still study the technology (may take longer) and make upgrades to the AK2 that way. Pakistan needs another strong tank besides AK1, procuring Altay tanks at least in the tens would help (only if PA approves the tank for Pakistan theater of war and overall of course).

As for Al-Zarrar Pakistan should mass export the tanks to countries in Africa, Asia -SE,CARs, etc, and elsewhere where there are customers.

altay? no freaking way .... why send on it when we already r developing AK-II.... Also accordin to nabil Pak is helpin turkey develop armor for their tank.... so yeah im confident abt the new gen AK.

Any idea when AK2 prototype will be developed? Some reports suggesting a few years but within this decade.

Why do that and waste money while we can use our own we have goos tanks in the making at home.

I think if Pakistan can get ToT from Turkiye it will be a worthwhile investment. Key here is getting ToT+Altay Tank.

The Altay looks to heavy and is probably really expensive, but nevertheless if Pakistan can afford it and buy it with TOT then it would be a good idea and a great boost to our Tank fleet.
