ISLAMABAD: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) on Friday accorded an approval to gift 40,000 metric tons of wheat to Afghanistan.

Finance Minister Asad Umar chaired a meeting of the ECC which agreed to gift wheat worth Rs1.73 billion to Afghanistan.

The ECC also approved the release of funds to the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) for the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP).

Following the ECC’s decision, $82.6 million will be released for the 320,000 BISP card holders.

In the fiscal year 2017-18, good growing conditions led to an increase in the country’s wheat production, up 800,000 tonnes to 26.3 million tonnes, according to a Global Agricultural Information Network report from the US Department of Agriculture.

“At a procurement price of $310 per tonne, producers who receive the government support price are among the better-compensated wheat growers globally,” the USDA said.

“In spite of the lower-than-targeted procurement, the government now holds 10.8 million tonnes of wheat at the start of the local marketing years, one of the highest beginning stock levels on record.”

Wheat exports in 2017-18 were around 1.2 million tonnes, unchanged from the previous USDA estimate. Exports for the current crop season were forecast slightly lower at 1 million tonnes, reflecting 800,000 tonnes of subsidised exports plus 200,000 tonnes of wheat-equivalent flour to Afghanistan.

This must be explained by govt. in detail, how it works and how effective it has been and it must be audited as well.

. . . . .
Give it to people of Thar, you bloody PTI.

That is a very kind gesture by PM Imran Khan. He is indeed very different from the previous PMs of Pakistan and seems to have a good heart.

Kartarpur on one side and offering humanitarian help to Afghanistan to the best of his immediate capabilities. Let's hope this brings good results on both sides and the guns go silent.

In all honesty, I still see a future with India in peace; with Afghans all I want there is back under a repressive Taliban regieme which we build a wall around.

Let them become a mad mullah state , and then I want to send all of ours in a frenzied state of Hijrat to Afghanistan.

Let all extremism live “peacefully” in Afghanistan.

Exactly dont feed your own starving people instead give that to a nation who wants to destroy you.
Charity begins at home

And Afghans will pay for it ? With Opium money ?

No(although not a bad idea), it should be a national project like the dam; because it is that critical.

I also have these questions but I don't know if any answers will be given. How easy is it to audit this stuff?

Since when does the FM chair the ECC? I thought the ECC was pretty much set up as the PM's personal instrument of foreign economic aid, with the PM as the chairman.
