Pakistan set to gift 40,000 metric tons of wheat to Afghanistan

They can't give it to Pakistanis because doing so will crash the price of wheat in the country and cause massive losses to the state owned enterprises and provincial governments that are carrying that huge stock of 10.8 million tonnes. I've written about this huge problem before here on PDF:

Even the FM is now talking about it:

"We artificially increased the value of rupee by purchasing dollars. As a result, we started importing vegetables and we were unable to export surplus sugar and wheat without providing subsidiary [sic]," he said.

(BTW that's subsidies not subsidiary)

I also have these questions but I don't know if any answers will be given. How easy is it to audit this stuff?
Benazir income support is inherently corrupt.
It's just legal stealing.

Costs too much to ship it to Africa. We can give it to Indians, Iranians or Chinese. Indians we don't like. Iranians and Chinese might be offended by the gift and refuse since they don't really need our charity. So only Afghanistan is left.

We could dump it in a hole

No goodwill to be gained from doing that. In fact if people find out they will curse the government and then the government will have to explain why it is doing it which no doubt they don't want to do.

We will earn zero goodwill from the afghans, atleast by dumping it in a hole you don't feel like your feeding a enemy

The rest can be managed

gifting it free of cost to Afghanistan works
but giving the same free wheat to Thar and other deprived areas does not?

No wonder this country is cursed with problems. This tactic they must have learnt from david Rockefellers, they are known for this.

ISLAMABAD: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) on Friday accorded an approval to gift 40,000 metric tons of wheat to Afghanistan.

Finance Minister Asad Umar chaired a meeting of the ECC which agreed to gift wheat worth Rs1.73 billion to Afghanistan.

The ECC also approved the release of funds to the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) for the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP).

Following the ECC’s decision, $82.6 million will be released for the 320,000 BISP card holders.

In the fiscal year 2017-18, good growing conditions led to an increase in the country’s wheat production, up 800,000 tonnes to 26.3 million tonnes, according to a Global Agricultural Information Network report from the US Department of Agriculture.

“At a procurement price of $310 per tonne, producers who receive the government support price are among the better-compensated wheat growers globally,” the USDA said.

“In spite of the lower-than-targeted procurement, the government now holds 10.8 million tonnes of wheat at the start of the local marketing years, one of the highest beginning stock levels on record.”

Wheat exports in 2017-18 were around 1.2 million tonnes, unchanged from the previous USDA estimate. Exports for the current crop season were forecast slightly lower at 1 million tonnes, reflecting 800,000 tonnes of subsidised exports plus 200,000 tonnes of wheat-equivalent flour to Afghanistan.

Awesome, they use to sell this in past.

In all honesty, I still see a future with India in peace; with Afghans all I want there is back under a repressive Taliban regieme which we build a wall around.

Let them become a mad mullah state , and then I want to send all of ours in a frenzied state of Hijrat to Afghanistan.

Let all extremism live “peacefully” in Afghanistan.

Your soft corner for India is as venomous as the current administration's favor for the Afghans. Let both of them eat shit. We should mind our business and focus on our house.

Although its a very kind and humane gesture by PM Imran Khan .... but as pointed by many members , Charity begins at home first ...
