SUPARCO has initiated optical remote sensing application satellites program (PRSC-EOS), to build and launch 3 x optical remote sensing satellites by year 2023.
The satellites will join the fleet of already in-orbit remote sensing satellites of Pakistan i.e. PRSS-1 and PakTES-1A. the remote sensing data will be utilized in the fields of land mapping, agriculture classification and assessment, urban and rural planning, environmental monitoring, natural disaster monitoring / management, surveying, natural resources protection and others.

Brief Specification

ProgrammeElectro optical Satellites
Mass ClassSmall Satellites
Orbital PositionSSO/Inclined
Launch2022 – 2023

a life expectancy of 5 years is not a good one. should have designed one for at least 10-12 years.
but something is better than nothing

Cost-cutting would be at the expense of quality, hence the low service life.

and that will end costing us more than necessary, if its a strategic requirement, then they will have to replace them every 5 years.

Maybe part of the learning curve where low cost, low service life assets are sent to orbit to gain experience vis a vis satellite design and managing through the ground stations, then graduating into something more ambitious once there is sufficient experience?

maybe, but there is no time.

Trolling
This is what was launched during the previous PML-N Government:
  • 2013: iCUBE-1
  • 2018: PakSat MM'I' (AsiaSat 4)
  • 2018: PRSS-1
  • 2018: PakTES-1 Alpha
This is what was supposed to have been launched under the PTI Government despite allocation of appropriate funds for SUPARCO but not single launch has taken place to date:
  • 2018: PakSat-MM'1'
  • 2019: PNSS-1
  • 20??: PakTES-1B
  • 20??: iCUBE-2
  • 20??: PRSS-S-1
  • 20??: PRSS-02
  • 20??: PSNP

There is no doubt this is an indigenous effort. It looks pretty similar to Turkey's unlaunched Lagari microsatellite or China's Kuaizhou satellite series. I expect it to be launched by a Pakistani space launch vehicle very similar to China's Kuaizhou-1/1A

Unless of course they are payloads on China's manned spaceflights which are supposed to be carrying a Pakistani astronaut. It's madness but it's all government ministers keep talking about to newspapers when it comes to Pakistan's space endeavours.

No EO or SAR satellite in SSO or LEO is going to have a life of 10 to 12 years due to orbital decay. A 10 - 15 year life is reserved for geostationary communication satellites. At least outside of advanced countries.

PakSAT-MM1R - (replacement for PakSAT-MM1) is due to be launched in 2024

Feasibility studies and funding/contracts for for PRSS-O2 were approved in the last PSDP - I expect it will have to be launched around 2023/2024 as PRSS-1 has a 7 year life. It will probably be launched with PakTES-1B.

No idea about PRSS-S-1. Even Turkey hasn't launched it's SAR satellite Gokturk-3 yet.

PNSS-1 and PSNP always seemed like longer term projects.

iCube-2 is the sort of thing you might launch as a dummy satellite for your first, second or third SLV attempt after mastering stage separation and orbital insertion.

@waz is this a political di* measuring thread?
If someone wants to blow the trumpet of their favourite political party, shouldn't they post in appropriate sections?

Right from 1991, SUPARCO has planned dozens of satellites, and only 1 or 2 have come to the realization (thanks to China).
There is ages old rift between the Karachi and Lahore centers (both are capable of designing complete satellites). Dr Muhammad Riaz Suddle(former head of the Lahore branch and the brother of famous Dr Muhammad Shoaib Suddle) has expressed on many occasions that Karachi doesn't deserve anything good. He literary ordered many things to be relocated from Karachi to Lahore. And many things like that.

Chairman SUPARCO is usually is a three-star general who, according to higher-ups is incapable of holding any important position, so he is sent to SUPARCO. Secretary SUPARCO is a guy who draws heavy pay and knows nothing about satellite manufacturing.

As Chairman and secretary SUPARCO are incapable of anything, they always prefer people from SUPARCO who are also incapable. Literary, one of the directors, who was incharge of horticulture was ordered to design Satellite(PRSS).

Under these favorable conditions, do you guys still think that SUPARCO can do anything?
