Adviser to Prime Minister of Pakistan for Commerce and Investment Abdul Razak Dawood said on Friday that Pakistan’s exports for the month of December 2020 have grown by 18.3 percent to $2.357 billion.

Pakistan’s exports grew for the fourth consecutive month in December.

He said that this is the highest export ever in the month of December, adding “for the period July-December 2020, our exports increased by 4.9% to USD 12.104 billion as compared to USD 11.533 billion in the corresponding period last year”.

As compared with November 2020 figures, it grew by 9.07%. During November, the trade figures had grown to $2.161 billion.
Managing Director at Khadim Ali Shah Bukhari Securities, A.A.H Soomro, told ProPakistani,
This is a shockingly positive surprise. Double-digit growth in Exports would change the growth momentum. Need to see the break-up but policies seem to be bearing fruits on cheaper energy, prompt refunds & ease of doing business. Need to widen the base & focus on service & manufacturing exports. Very impressive numbers!
However, it may be noted here that the figures that the adviser shared Friday afternoon are provisional figures from the Ministry of Commerce. The actual data is yet to be released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) regarding exports as well as other factors like trade deficit.

Sharing the provisional data, Dawood said that this shows the resilience of the economy of Pakistan and it is a vindication of the government’s policy to keep the wheels of the economy running during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I commend our exporters for achieving this feat during these testing times and urge them to aggressively focus on capturing a larger share of international trade,” he said, concluding with a hearty appreciation, with the words “Exporters you are a great asset for our country and I salute you all”.

Shame is that most discussions on Pakistani media is about Bongis of Maryam, Dance of Bilawal Khusri and threats of Diesel.

PTI/IK's so many good policies are now coming to fruition.
People were hoping for miracles, after the damage caused by criminal Dar.
If he was here, I can promise you, Pakistan wouldn't have been a nuclear state any more, or soon would have been bankrupted.
Dar should be brought back, charged, convicted of treason and hanged.

It cannot in short to medium term. Do you forget all those expensive loans PMLN and PPP obtained to keep the Rupee artificially firmer than its market value.
Criminal Dar took loans on the names of private companies giving Sovereign guarantees, while those loans were not even included in the official figures. That's how the Rupee was kept firm. Those loans with excessive interest rates, some even higher than 8%+, still has to be paid by state of Pakistan, which provided the sovereign guarantees.

That's why don't expect the reserves to swell anytime soon. It would gradually started to show improvement over the years.

Wonderful news.... Expecting yet another month of current account surplus inshallah.

It seems surreal that just two years ago PML-N left us with a deficit of $20b and now we have a surplus of approximately $2b in the first six months (not confirmed my estimation based on previous five months).

This alone is PTI's greatest achievement even if you ignore universal health coverage and Ehsaas.

Sadly our media is focusing on she-male Bilawal and woman of the night Maryam.

Had we had 5% growth from 2011-2018
Our exports would have been 50b today

It makes me :suicide2::suicide2::suicide2:
When people say 5% is nothing

Remittence growth/streamlining has helped too

But tax reforms are slow which again is tricky since u dont want a shock to economy too..it is not a day work its a marathon

Education and health reforms are needed

But the biggest challenge is and will remain power sector..i dont see any way ouput unless govt rapidly add cheap solar, renegotiate with IPPs and privitize/improve distribution companies

Brother, Tax reforms are tricky and difficult, because over the decades, deliberately a culture is created in which nobody wants to declare their incomes and pay taxes on them. When top brass was doing it, when the FBR officers were corrupt asking bribes. Why common people and businessmen would pay their taxes!!

The Education and health reforms are linked to the tax reforms.

Until Pakistan start to collect more taxes, how it can spend more on Health and Education, which are more pressing needs!!

Another thing needs to change, on which Pakistanis are not paying attention is the 18th Amendment.
That's why PPP would never resign from the assembly seats, unless it becomes untenable for them to stay in assemblies. Zardari is playing this game, to make as much money as possible before the next elections, which does not guarantee for PPP to win majority in Sind.

He makes money from the funding Sind receives due to 18th. IF any doubt , look at the Karachi roads, hygiene, collection of rubbish, transportation etc. Most of the money is disappearing in some dark and deep hole.
