What's new

Pakistan receives $2 billion from Saudi Arabia: Ishaq Dar

we used to take pride in Pakistan here. But now, it is just a basket filled with just impotent and useless greedy pigs - like a Pak friend said - he accidentally ate pork but then realised what it was. Laughing he said, i at least realised but in Pakistan these bastards at the top are complete haramkhors who have eaten up entire country and still have the guts to perform namaz.

Kafiristan???

Yes, they need to do the MBS treatment on all the elites, feudals and generals.

Then line them up and either give hand or other organs or give up all their ill gotten wealth.

Love Salman for that. That is truly what Pakistan needs is to line these haramkhors on the back of donkeys and parade them.
This muslims down fall the greed of paisa, the enemy countries know its just paper printed but they know how to buy out traitors. atleast with genghis he taught nations fear and discipline and knew how to punish. yet you see dumb muslim complain about genghis wrecking their so call golden age of islam more golden age of bribes, greed, is it any wonder why Genghis came to humiliate them he sent as punishment.

what exactly was the role of the army chief here?
The army chief is the guarantor (as per Saudi request) and part of the economic committee
KSA waited until IMF deal before it deposited the monies - what does that tell us about the confidence of KSA on Pakistan as a country

I am really not sure - is this supposed to be a win
Yes they did. In a way it’s a good thing because they have been bailing Pakistani state out for decades and they now want to see structural reforms mandated by the IMF
why do they "need" to help Pakistan? what exactly is Pakistan giving them that they cannot get anywhere else?
in fact, they were almost sidelined by creating a grouping with turkey, malaysia not too long ago
They need Pakistan

1. For food security

Saudis and other gulf countries tried to buy farms in Africa and elsewhere and they didn’t get exactly what they hoped. Like it or not, Pakistan is a heaven for agriculture business. Anything can be grown there

2. Defence needs

For years Saudis relied upon the West for its security. Pakistan too has been involved in some capacity from training to stationing troops there. Can be said unofficially we have a military base there. In fact the head of the current Islamic military alliance is our former army chief so that speaks volumes and confidence in our ability. Furthermore, Pakistan is a nuclear power and the only Islamic country with such capability. Saudis in the past financed the program so in a nutshell interests are deep and historic.

3. Investment

Pakistan may not have anything to offer now but it’s a country of over 240 million people. The market is big for business. Saudis are not dumb if they see potential in investing in oil refinery plants in cities like Gwadar and since China too is involved it makes investment even more lucrative and safe.

One final note. Turkey is also a recipient of Saudi deposits and investment. There is a new order now in the Islamic world. West is booted out and cooperation between countries in the region have increased

You can't even reach the toes of The Netherlands. The Dutch have built a knowledge based economy. In The Netherlands the military doesn't interfere in political matters. The people are very well educated. The literacy rate is very high. The Netherlands attracts an amazing amount of foreign students and researchers. Pakistan doesn't have any such foundation.

In Pakistan extremely corrupt and illiterate political leaders get elected. These people can't run a candy shop. Not even in a thousand years can Pakistan reach the level of The Netherlands. The Pakistani agriculture sector is a wasteful and underdeveloped sector. Even when this sector is supposed to be backbone of Pakistan. It goes to show that Pakistanis are generally lazy and unwilling to improve. The mind boggles. How can a country remain so backward and underdeveloped in sectors that are supposedly the backbone of the economy? Mind numbing.
It’s not something we were not or cannot. Pakistan under military dictatorship under Ayub Khan in the 60s transformed Pakistan from science and technology, agriculture to aviation. It was an era where our people were wanted even in countries like China and South Korea. In fact there were 22 families (including sharifs) which had a huge role in Pakistan’s economic transformation up until Bhutto came and nationalized everything they owned and replaced them with illiterate jiyalas. I see hope now starting from powerful quarters such as army . All we need is a policy of ease of doing business and political stability. All other stuff will follow and there should be no doubt, Pakistan’s agriculture potential is more than what the Netherlands is

Agree things were getting out of control
Ik was too much of commie spending money on ehsas fund etc and universal insurance
We need capitalist mindset and more development first

Your world is very simple, apparently. A Knight in Shining Armor or a Salahuddin Mr. Imran Khan came to Pakistan to rescue poor Pakistanis from 'the capitalists'. Irony is, some ladies VERY close to Imran were involved in very expensive diamond jewellery 'dealings' and multi-billion Rupees real estate deals and those transactions are facts. So much so for the Riyasat e Medina wannna be new-born Caliph! Hah.

You live in America like me, right? You know what 'populism' is doing to America? Multi-billion dollar student loans write offs. Covid related 'reliefs'. And many other 'social programs' while America keeps sinking low and low into debt to the point that even the NY Times, a Biden mouthpiece, recently wrote an editorial indirectly admonishing Biden for his extravagant expenditures. But then... once you start 'giving' freebies, then you have a captive and dependent electorate. That was obvious to PM Imran Khan as he sunk Pakistan deeper and deeper into debt while he sold State-Gifts like watches and pocketed the money and people like Farah Gogi and Malik Riyaz got richer and richer.

Caliph Imran Khan had no clothes.

To all Pakistanis lauding and blasting the KSA and IMF $Bs : to really become sovereign Pakistan needs to repay some $15B to KSA, and another $60B or so for all others . Can you guys come up with what Pakistan make and export to earn at least a net $10B a year so that you can avoid the recurrence fof such dire straits ?

Don’t mean this as insult but everyone whines and moans and curses . Just what are you guys good for , to produce and sell that other countries will pay for ?

Ps: cricket and football stuff can only make a few millions. Come up with something substantial

Comparing yourself to America :D

You Indians, if you follow your own anti-Pakistan blogger Shehkar Gupta, would know that Pakistan's indicators were ahead of India from 1947 and well into the 1980s.

The Pakistani economic indicators were ahead of India. I doubt the social indicators were ahead. Between Western largess, license raj, Hindu growth rate and India's misguided socialist policies that is not a big achievement

Once India did a course correction in 1990 it was game over on the economic side

What PTI borrowed was to do debt serving of previous administration loans.

And it was taken out to fuel CPEC so there's at least an excuse. I'm not entirely sure what Niazi Babu accomplished with his loans...

Maybe it all blew-up on COVID, just maybe, though I'm not seeing any concrete data to confirm this 'analogy.'

Not sure where it all went, to be honest.

Oh well.

Fishing fish like you is my job

You’re a good fish. I will fish you

Fish me, O' fishy Fisher!

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said on Tuesday that the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has received $2 billion from Saudi Arabia, in yet another boost for the ailing economy following the $3 billion Stand-by Agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

“This inflow has increased the forex reserves held by SBP and will accordingly be reflected in the forex reserves for the week ending July 14, 2023,” Dar said.

“On behalf of the prime minister and army chief, I extend our heartfelt thanks to the leadership of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for their great gesture and support by placing the said deposit of $2 billion with the State Bank of Pakistan,” the minister added.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also expressed his gratitude to Saudi Arabia and Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman for ensuring financial support to Pakistan.

“This deposit will strengthen Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves. It reflects the growing confidence of our brotherly countries and the international community in Pakistan’s economic turnaround. We remain committed to making all necessary efforts to improve Pakistan’s economy,” the premier said.

He also appreciated Dar and Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir for their efforts in this regard.

Saudi Arabia had already pledged the money to Pakistan and waited for the much-awaited IMF deal to be announced before depositing it.

The financial support will shore up the depleting foreign exchange reserves at the central bank, which had dipped to cover barely a month of controlled imports.

The executive board of the IMF will meet on July 12 to review the $3 billion Stand-by Arrangement (SBA) for Pakistan, the staff-level pact for which was finalised last week.

Pakistan was absent from an earlier schedule released in June, igniting speculation that the IMF was not going to release funds from an earlier programme that expired on June 30

On June 29, the IMF and Pakistan reached a stand-by arrangement (SBA) to ease the country’s financial crisis. The nine-month SBA, if approved, will bring $3bn, or 111pc of Pakistan’s IMF quota.

The board’s approvals are generally granted once a staff-level agreement (SLA) is done. The Pakistan government was expecting about $2.5bn from the IMF, but it was given $3bn. Pakistan had earlier cleared eight of the 11 listed programme reviews, with the ninth review pending since November last year.

Celebration of another loan. Usury slaves mentality.
