I have to agree, lately my mood has been bitter at the amount of vitriol and blatant trolling that is going on PDF and there is zero action. What can one do.

This is not a sentimental issue. From players perspective, they need to score points to climb the ladder in the elto ranking. Participation and wins in these tournaments is how their careers can progress. It is a real career crisis from a professional's perspective. They may loose sponsorship later on because of lack of progress in ranking.

Bahi meray sadly in Pakistan there is no corporate sponsorship of professional chess players. Ap Chess choro, in Pak there is no professional sponsorship of our Olympic shooters, our only archer and power lifters... The only sports that get corporate sponsorship are hockey, boxing and Judo.

Yea, that is not encouraging. But still, the ranking is one of the criteria to get GM title. Eventually, that may allow for sponsorship. Either way, political issues have their say and that cannot be avoided.

Agreed, I hate politics. It's the biggest barrier between progress for the masses.
