Pakistan PM announces $3.2 billion package for farm sector

That I can agree on

I have pointed this out many times on this forum....

We used to sell chunks of cotton raw material overseas and buy back clothes made from the same cotton....Pakistan's cotton at 1 time used to be top quality but now other countries have got better products coz they invested in research and got their plants resistant to pest and drought....same case for other stuff like cereals such as wheat! We could have been selling porridge and bread!

Cheese industry would have kicked off good sadly no one thinks in the progressive direction!
Because we still have the feudal midset. We are still thinking of exporting raw materials and then import it back and pay a much higher price.
It's a self-defeating cycle that only makes us poorer ever year yet no one has taken the initiative to really change this.

how is that feudal mindset ?

how is that feudal mindset ?
The inability to see beyond a limited timeframe, the continuation of degrading tradition at the expense of progress and development, refusing to let go of inefficient practices.

All indicate a mindset that will not accept progressive ideas, will scorn anything that defies rigidly held values and will deny basic facts that point to improvements.

While entrepreneurs in other countries are adopting technology to increase production, reduce costs and improve quality, we are still working on basic goods like leather, textiles and minerals. We are refusing to budge from our traditional way of doing things and insist that the world adapt to us.

Farmers are wasting water and no government initiative is underway to conserve that precious resource. Inefficient irrigation methods will become a burden for our future generation and we do not give a second thought to this impending calamity. How much work has been done in this regard? How many farmers and producers have been asked to employ better irrigation techniques?

We are ready to pump billions into this sector without any campaign to increase productivity. Where do we stand wrt quality of our produce? We want the US to buy mangoes the way we like them, but ignore American distributors own requirements of unblemished food products. What have we done in this regard?

There's more to say, but it will suffice to show what a feudal mindset is. Pump money and hope everything improves. Take money and solve our problems today. No education, no technological advances and no roadmap, but hoping for the best anyways.

I have only 4.5 not 15 acres . I said the largest land by a relative of mine was 15 acres. We donot store , period.
I said valu added industry like instead of selling milk it can be turned into cheese , have a look at italy or france where there are loads of small farmers who make cheese by hand the old fashion way . No fancy machine needed . This could work well in pakistan evironment . The best mozarella cheese is made from buffalo milk not cow milk. Guess what pakistan is in the top ten buffalo milk producing country
the sind small develipment finance has launched a programme to add value to produce . Like storing of dates , dairy farm etc . But like the rest of sind everything is shrouded in corruption.
Yes same, we don't store either.
Agree on the value added industry and I am looking into this. It will take 10 litres of milk to make 1kg of hard cheese. Came across Adam's cheese which is selling for about Rs735 (907 grams)? If the farmer sells milk then he may make about Rs 500 from 10 litres of milk or processed as cheese may be able to fetch above Rs 700. So there is much room for the industry to expand.
