Pakistan plans seeking $12 billion IMF bailout: UK Financial Times

Ban imports of Used Electronics, Computers, Gadgets etc.
Ban Imports of Luxury Cars.
Set Dollar Rate higher then Demand i would even suggest 150/Dollar and Subsidized Petroleum Fuel imports and Capital Goods Imports only. Let the prices of Imports skyrocket in competition of local production.
Appeal overseas Pakistanis to Send Dollars to Specified Government Funds.
Put heavy tariffs on Chinese Cheap Imports instead give benefits to Chinese industries to set up manufacturing plants here as Pakistani Skilled Labor is Cheaper then Chinese.
Normalize Trade Relations with Afghanistan Iran and India.
Tons of things to be done but these steps should be taken on emergency basis.

PTI is not a strong govt. its making a coalition with small parties. Going to IMF will literally be suicide by Imran Khan. His govt. wont last 2.5 years. Imran has been voted in by urban middle class he will be thrown out by them as well. IMF not just give loans but it pushes host govt. to adhere to their social agenda and policies in sync with their interests. IMF 1995 gender rebalance reforms screwed the middle class of urban Pakistan just to push their agenda of forcing women to seek employment which was a social issue at that time.

For that they made their slave PPP govt. increase food inflation to the max. Same thing happened in 2008. Every time IMF has been the reason to increase food inflation food price rise which made people poorer. Only PPP their slaves did it. Always their hammer falls on the city population. Hope Asad Umar does'nt do this blunder

Friend, IMF track record is horrible; they fail to see issues from 3rd world prespective.

It's the only way for the 3rd world to, finally, get their heads of out of their behinds. A jolt, if you will. Tough conditions are a must imho.

I thought he is not going to the IMF? @BHarwana

If IMF bails out Pakistan, then PKR will fall below 150, possibly reaching 180 by year end. Time to buy dollars and gold to safe guard against inflation.

Pakistan is too weak to take any drastic steps in that direction. Current bucket has too money holes, first plug the holes and then start saving. I would caution new government about going toward gold reserves. Stabilizing the country and economy should be top priority of the new government. Fixing the police culture is very important, there has to be checks and balances in it.

As far as going to IMF, we don’t have money to pay for our imports, therefore Bailout is needed to prevent bankruptcy. We may see Rupees go up but it will eventually go down.

I am hoping that new government will give more power to NAB/FBR/FIA. This will help catch criminals and corrupt mafia. New government must bring back stolen 200 to 300 billion currently sitting in European, UAE, American and virgin Island banks.

Iran, Turkey, Malaysia, Azerbaijan, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar should be requested to invest in Pakistan.

Rest of the other recommendations were posted in my previous posts.

Everytime some one screws up and to avoid the above we go to IMF...

You dont get sick by going to hospital..makkng the conclusion that you are sick while being in hospital means that the hospital makes you sick is idiotic

No its not week a govt
PTI will form govt with PML Q, BAP and MQM all three parties are solid (punjab Baluchistan partners )
Even without MQM nobody can topple the govt
With by elections things are only gping to get better

Lol so honey moon is over before the govt started . ...we all know how big screw up PMLN did....i hope people of punjab know thw difference as KPK did between trying and **** up

I am not saying that going to IMF is wrong. All I am saying is that we don't need to. Just tell me why ishaq Dar gave artificial support to dollar and depleted the foreign reserves?

That cheap dollar was bought by PMLN politicians and is still with in the economy and it is hitting the market because dollar is going down.
This is all speculation war..you will need a bailout because things look very bad

12 billion half is just going to be used to pay the half you get...you are technically going to get 12 and pay off 6 billion...
So technically its just 6 billion

The govt was thinking about 18b first

Can you avoid may be....
But the risks of trying to do that are too high

Pakistan needs at least 16 billion of financing from outside and at least 10 billion of clear commitments...this year ...

The CAD was 20 billion vs 2 billion in zaradari last year

The degree of **** up is as monumental as nawaz him self

Yet people like @Tameem will say all hail nawaz shareef..who fucked us so bad

Pompeo might have helped Pakistan lol
Problem with IMF is they will ask for reducing spending which means failure of Cpec infrastructure ...give thanks to Mr Dar for destruction of export industry which was just limited to textiles
Even PPPP did far well in this sector

First thing I would do is to put very high tariffs on import of non necessary good and promote internal industry replacement. At least money remains within the country. This includes any industry where money is remitted outside such as coca-cola - Sometimes difficult decisions are needed.

Promote local and you build an entire country.

Completely agree. Pakistan has a fast growing middle class which can increasingly afford imported products. This is terrible for the wider economy as exports have remained stagnant making the deficit wider and wider. A tough decision needs to be made by PTI and it wont be popular but tariffs on luxury items need to be raised significantly.

Inflation has crossed the 5% mark as well and is likely to continue increasing as consumer confidence increases due to a stable government. Interest rates have to be increased which wil slow down growth but help the economy in the long run. Again an unpopular act that has to be made now.

If the last 5 years were full of corruption and wasted IMF bailouts, is there another choice?
If the last CEO screwed up the company so bad that the only choice is the loan shark or dissolution of the company.. what should I do? Stick to electioneering stands or actually try to save the company?

Fair point, still seems a little hypocritical to consider such a huge bailout, why not ask iron brother china for bailout without the IMF strings.Anyway lets see if he has the guts to do the other thing he said he would - withdraw from war on terror and end pak logistics support to usa in afghanistan.
