Don't buy the Dhruv; but when you comment, try to remember that 18 have crashed, over 12 years, 3 due to pilot error, 2 in Siachen and Sikkim white-out conditions and 1 due to hostile fire; that leaves 12 in 12 years. Out of 230+ flying. You can work out what it amounts to, in percentage terms. That's for a helicopter designed and built in India. And that also accounts for a policy decision by the Home Ministry and other non-military buyers to entrust maintenance to Pawan Hans, known for its sloppy work practices.

If you know anything about the matter - very doubtful - this specific one and operating helicopters in general, you will recognise that spares were not bought along with the choppers, and when parts were needed, delivery was expected overnight. When these were not available, they kept flying the choppers, without the benefit of either preventive maintenance or fault repairs, and four crashes occurred.

yep but if you take a look at the leonardo's official website it will confirm about the same order placed back in feb 2017 and later in March it was signed by the govt... however the number of ordered helicopters is unknown ..... but end of story is .. lets eat the mango rather than counting leaves

The trouble with your kind of narrative is your desperate grasping at every straw to make a non-existent case. As it happens, I was present right through the development cycle, working as a contractor. What you have gleaned from your extensive study of the Internet cannot compare with my being there when the blade design came out skewed one millimetre, due to the translation of the design from one system to another, and all the other headaches involved in taking up a task from basics.

The HAL design team went through every detail; the involvement of MBB was in validating our assumptions, and schooling us about the certification procedures. They were not creative people and copied the external shape of the cabin, and that was about it.

So don't give me that stuff about more or less a scaled-up BK 117. That is more or less crap.

IIRC the PAF committed to buy 14 back in 2016 (to replace the Alouette IIIs). This is likely just another batch order from within that framework (of 14 helicopters). The MRO should already be in place via the Pratt & Whitney PT6 site at PAC.
