Dude... little confused here.... 40 is the order for export so what's the count in our own inventory for us I mean? Thnx

These are not export orders but orders of 40 block 2 for PAF... 10 blk 2 have been made so far so this would mark an end of block 2 when these are delivered by 2017.

The export orders are still not known... There are some unconfirmed reports as you have stated but how accurate are they can only be seen once the country ordering discloses. There are a few countries that have been interested in purchasing these aircraft and some news channels even aired news regarding Sri Lanka opening letter of credit in this regards.

exercising financial leverage is quite normal at the nation state level when you're talking about strategic assets like fighters, missiles etc
You really mean to suggest that India would have cancelled the Rafale deal and the French MICA missiles for its French Mirage aircraft because of a French avionics sale to Pakistan?

That would imply that the years of analysis of various aircraft participating in the MMRCA tender and missile systems was a waste of time, because India would have walked away from the Rafale and MICA missiles had France agreed to sell avionics to Pakistan.

no, but that very expensive MICA suite did give India a bit of financial leverage, helped France and India come to a mutual understanding of sorts.. no ego here, it's just how high level hustling works :)

Hustling of the kind being referred to implies a quid pro quo, which in this case could only be that a French refusal to sell to Pakistan would be rewarded by contracts for the Rafale and MICA, which in turn suggests that Indian military acquisition policies are arbitrary and focused on denying Pakistan equipment rather than purchasing the equipment most suited to India's needs.

Would India have rejected the Rafale had France sold Pakistan an avionics suite for the JF-17? No.

Would India have rejected the MICA for her French Mirage fighter jets had France sold Pakistan an avionics suite for the JF-17? No.

Will India walk out of the PAK-FA and further SU-30MKI purchases despite the massive investments made in local production of the latter etc over Russia selling Pakistan military hardware? No, especially because the Rafale acquisition has made clear where India plans to acquire future aircraft from.

no, no and no.

and that the rafale won the tender for the medium multirole fighter is aided in large part by the IAF's good experience with the mirages over the years, the Russians have the heavies market all tied down for now but the long term goal is still to go full local with 100% ToT, something the Americans don't have a realistic shot at because of their reluctance to part with critical tech + there being much distrust here about possible sanctions etc

to try and leverage vendors is just how this business works, given the financial muscle, Pak would do it no differently.
