Pakistan officially inducts HQ 9 Air Defence system

. .
Can anyone smart logically goes through how good is this system? its competition?

oh just googled it

" The HQ-9 is a medium- to long-range, active radar homing surface-to-air missile. Similar in capability to the Russian S-300 and American Patriot systems, the HQ-9 uses a HT-233 PESA radar system. The naval variant, HHQ-9, appears to be identical to the land-based variant. "

Its S-300 level

I think it's safe to assume this system might end up being on par with S-400s in the future, taking into consideration constant upgrades by the Chinese and their knack for buying the Russian hardware and improving upon it until they make their own competitor equal or higher than their Russian counterparts, case in point being Russian Flankers and the Chinese J-16 (prolly the best flanker variant as of right now).

PAF will get 20-30 J10C by years end IA along with initial batch of PL15s

Next HQ9B brigade will more than likely be settup in Gilgit. Good that Karachi got the attention it needed first.

HQ9Bs longest range missile is 250KM
You wouldn't want to deploy HQ-9 in such a harsh environment with high mountains every few hundred meters.

It can shoot down BVR missiles (Meteor, R-77) at 100km? Sounds like a huge deal to me. But how can you IFF an air to air missile...

A very good day for the air defence of our country. What fascist Modi will have the excuse "only if India could have S 500" or Fascist Modi have learned new tricks and "only if India could have F-35".
Now we need to get our own Hypersonic cruise missiles and then India needs to get 10 times more strike capabilities. For a change shoe is on the other foot and Modi backside must be on fire and thanks to the supply chain issues Burnol can't come soon enough.

The goal would not be to strike indian fighters in kashmir. THe goal would to provide air defence to forces/bases in gilgit. Also these SAMS would still be effective for high flying jets in a mountanous environment. Even in flat terrain these long range sam systems will have a very hard time detecting fighter jets flying a few dozen meters above ground (well trained pilots do this often).

This is where short range SAMS come in. I like the strategy of Pakistan, where we pursused building up our short range sam capability followed by medium range. Its much harder starting from the top and going down. I am sure our planners understand the GAPs in our air defence much better at this point than our neighbors understand theirs.

I was actually thinking the opposite. That PA doesn't trust the PAF to be able to defend some locations so they want to enforce their own no-fly zones. It would be more in line with @kursed's assertion that PAF's vision and PA's CIADBAM are their own dairh eent ki masjids.
Essentially what we have is a combined Air / Naval - AD command and a separate Army led AD command structure. If Navy, at the end of the day does end up adding a LRSAM, it'd be part of their combined AD.

If it’s HQ-9BE then it’s 260km plus limited ABM capability:

It's probably FD-2000. ISPR said the range is 100+ km. See description.

ISPR General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) visited Army Air Defence Centre Karachi today . On arrival COAS laid floral wreath at Shahuada monument. Later, COAS witnessed commissioning of state of the art Chinese origin HQ-9/P HIMADS (High to Medium Air Defence System) into Pakistan Army Air Defence. Lieutenant General Hamood uz Zaman Khan; Commander Army Air Defence Command briefed COAS about strategic weapon system. Induction of HIMADS will significantly enhance Comprehensive Layered Integrated Air Defence (CLIAD) shield of aerial frontiers of Pakistan as the system is fully integrated through a well-knit Digitised System on its inventory. Capable of intercepting multiple air targets including aircrafts, cruise missiles and Beyond Visual Range Weapons at ranges over 100 kilometres with Single Shot Kill Probability, HQ-9/P is considered as a strategic long range Surface to Air Missile (SAM) with remarkable flexibility and precision. Speaking at the occasion, COAS said that induction of high-tech systems will make Pakistan’s air defence impenetrable in the emerging threat scenario. Highlighting the criticality of air defence in the overall defence of motherland, COAS said exemplary synergy between Pakistan Air Force and Pakistan Army Air Defence makes country’s air defence impregnable. Pakistan–China strategic partnership and defence collaboration is a factor of stability in the region, COAS remarked. Senior officials from China were also present on the occasion.

So this is Pakistans first ever high altitude SAM.

Any details about the ceiling?
