Pakistan will acquire four modern frigates and eight submarines from its close ally China as part of the efforts to modernise Pakistan Navy and add to its offensive capabilities, its chief has said.

The Pakistan Navy has contracted the construction of four Type 054A/P frigates from China since 2017, and the first ship was launched in August 2020.

As part of the modernisation, the PN is replacing its existing ageing platforms with acquisitions from friendly countries along with transfer of technology for their in-country construction, Admiral M Amjad Khan Niazi told Global Times. The contract for acquisition of eight new Hangor-class submarines was signed with China Shipbuilding and Offshore International Co Ltd. Of these, four submarines will be constructed in China while the other four will be built in Pakistan. These submarines, once inducted, would substantially add to the offensive capability of the PN Fleet, he said.

The Type 054A/P is powered by a combined diesel and diesel (CODAD) propulsion system including four Shaanxi 16 PA6 STC diesel, each developing 5700 kW. The ship can reach a top speed of 27 knots with an estimated cruising range of 8,025 nautical miles (14,862 km). The ship has a crew of 165 people.

The Type 054A/P is equipped with specific equipment and armament requested by the Pakistani Navy including SR2410C phased radar and 32-cell Vertical Launching System (VLS) able to launch the export version of the YJ-12 anti-ship cruise missiles.

Other armaments of the Type 054A/P include eight C-803 anti-ship / land-attack cruise missiles, one PJ26 76 mm dual-purpose naval gun, two Type 730 7-barrel 30 mm CIWS guns or Type 1130, six 324mm Yu-7 ASW torpedo launchers, two Type 87 240mm anti-submarine rocket launcher (36 rockets carried) and two Type 726-4 18-tube decoy rocket launchers.

Don't underestimate the enemy, They have long range Black shark Torpedo (50km) in their scorpion class and they are developing indigenous long range 50 km torpedo for their next gen nuclear SSGN but your destroyers and Frigates relying on light weight short range torpedos (15 km in range) for self defense so @FuturePAF is rights to ask Chinese members that Your PLAN have or will have heavy weight (long range 50 km+) torpedo to counter this threat???

PN warships will also have MPAs support against enemy submarines also PN have helicopters with ASW capability too.

According to @Tipu7 this is typing mistake. VLS are not for carrying Anti Ship Missile.

wow! this is one impressive ship, top of the line frigate. are the VLS reloaded from stored weapons in the frigate or can the frigate only carry 32 missiles and have to replenish them at port ?

Seems like by 2021/2022 we should get these ships in Pakistan Navy
Delivery on time is a big character of China's people

Amazing delivery habits

I am generally ok with al 4 being made in China and may be 2 ship in future are constructed in Pakistan

. . .
Newer updates to some of the older Chinese have packed config doubling the total number of ssm Foraxample pn f22p has room to tight pack bringing total number of ssm to 12 or 16
Both 054a/p and f-22p show room for such tight packing of ssms
