Featured Pakistan Navy prevented Indian Submarine from entering into Pakistani waters on 16th October

View attachment 786272

This was the exact location of the IN submarine when it was being tracked via thermal imaging, which is 158 NM SSW from Karachi.
These are international waters and no offensive action can be taken against such detections.

The track, speed and time of the location and tracking was not disclosed.
It was detected while submerged and after sonobouys were dropped, it had to surface to disclose its location to the Orion overhead to avoid any further action.

The information/movement of this IN sub may have been known when it left harbour and was probably proceeding to its patrol station near our coastline.

It is was a scorpene class submarine, and PN does have a signature library for this class.

Movements of submarines are normally classified by all navies to avoid detection by others in order to capture their acoustic signatures.

The UNCLOS only restricts vessels movements in Territorial waters.

PART III of UNCLOS
Article20

Submarines and other underwater vehicles
In the territorial sea, submarines and other underwater vehicles are required to navigate on the surface and to show their flag.

There is no restrictions of movements in International waters. However Hot pursuit can be done.

PART VII of UNCLOS
Article111
Right of hot pursuit
5. The right of hot pursuit may be exercised only by warships or military aircraft, or other ships or aircraft clearly marked and identifiable as being on government service and authorized to that effect.

6. Where hot pursuit is effected by an aircraft:

(a) the provisions of paragraphs 1 to 4 shall apply mutatis mutandis;

(b) the aircraft giving the order to stop must itself actively pursue the ship until a ship or another aircraft of the coastal State, summoned by the aircraft, arrives to take over the pursuit, unless the aircraft is itself able to arrest the ship. It does not suffice to justify an arrest outside the territorial sea that the ship was merely sighted by the aircraft as an offender or suspected offender, if it was not both ordered to stop and pursued by the aircraft itself or other aircraft or ships which continue the pursuit without interruption.
can you please explain how dropping of sonobouys by an opposition can force the Sub to surface in international waters ? are there any international rules will can compel the Sub to surface in international water ?

.
Just a masoom question....what might be Indian response if they detect PN Agosta near their cost lines ....would they also issue a warning?
We know what they did to our Atlantique

. . .
If it was with consent no problem but if the US acted irrationally and parked it, their are millions of ways of blowing it up and making it look like an accident. Military needs to learn how to lay the bait. But time and time again it disappoints me greatly.

Even Operation Swift Retort should've shot down all Indian jets that was possible; you exert maximum pressure. If their was fear of it turning into a shooting match might as well have not even bothered with the operation to begin with. If I acted like the Pak Military, my competitor last year wouldn't be in the homeless shelter with his wife and kids, in his place it would've been me. Often times you need to be in a shooting match to reap its rewards.

On Operation Swift Retort:
  • Pakistan wanted to control the escalation leader that's is why it bombed Indian garrisons and yet saved them from destruction.
  • That time wasn't suitable for Pakistan to get into a war with India because of the situation in Afghanistan and its plausible outcome in sight.
You start a war when it suits you more than your enemy. It wasn't such a time for Pakistan.

Pakistan could allow the sub to travel further and then damage it allowing it to return. Then it would've been something like Feb 2019.

Sonobouys meant it was detected and was warning so it had to surface, else it could have escalated. But there could have been direct comm b/w MPA and Sub.

I read on the comments that we should be sink it?!?

No, we can NOT we follow UN charter, in peace time, every country follow these rules, not to fire or kill it.
Yes, in war its different, and can do what we want.

Remember Chinese and Taiwan air forces or other Russian and US air forces do not fire, may give warning shoots, but that's it, nothing more.

General Bajwa has nothing to do with it ... we are responsible country and we follow rules of engagement.

Kalvari-class = Scorpene-class but manufactured in India.

We need to do more to beef up our navy ... Indian sub came 70 miles inside Pakistan waters, after warning, took 4 hours to get out. We collected all the data, and for sure we can find it easily way before entered our waters. Specifically when we know the sound etc it makes inside waters.

.
For everyone saying "we should have sunk it", you think that the Indians won't retaliate? Slippery slope to a war.

. .
so as per news, it was detected and was forced to come to surface and than was escorted for half an hour to international waters. That's quiet an achievement for a green water navy like us

can easily be the other way round as well; it collected all the data of Pakistani platforms that were sensing it.
