Why? The speed of the latest block US Tomahawk cruise missile is subsonic; about 550 mph (890 km/h).

Plus, this missile is equipped only with a mono-pulse radar seeker with a maximum detection range of 40 km and a maximum lock-on range of 30 km. The sector of the scan of the seeker is ± 40 degrees.

So this ain't much of a lethal weapon. Max range of 280km doesn't mean a high kill probability at that range. I wonder what the kill probability is at its max lock-on range of 30km? Because beyond that it's more or less a free rocket over water like the Soviet Union's FROGs of the 60s!
