Featured Pakistan Navy ATR72 at Mönchengladbach Germany for conversion into a Sea Eagle

A question everybody ask now a days. How credible will be PN LRMPA interms of capability when compared with IN P-8I MPA?
It's tough matching the P-8I specifically due to it being a deep customization of the Boeing 737NG (i.e., internal bay), US-only sensors (i.e., not available for 3rd party programs), etc.

However, I'm sure the PN LRMPA will bring the necessary ASW, AShW, and ISR/ISTAR capabilities the PN (or most navies) would need. It won't disappoint. @PAR 5

There is dark side of such advanve weapon systems. Such sensitive American Equipment cannot be integrated with remaining non-American assets of Indian Navy and therefore IN cannot establish a dedicated network centricity for meeting the challenges of future.

previously [I think 6 months back] they issued tender for used ATR .... I don't know they acquired it from which country .... earlier two which are now converted were already with PN

The Navy plans to use the Boeing P-8Is and GA SeaGuardians to observe and neutralise hostile elements at extended ranges. Both these are armed, and the P-8, which the Indian Navy is second to induct after the US Navy, has formidable onboard capabilities to detect and destroy hidden submarines. The Indian P-8Is have 360 degree radar coverage, and all of them are networked with other aircraft, shore facilities, various Commands, and the Navy’s main 24 x 7 control centre IMAC (Information Management and Analysis Centre), located in Gurgaon, south of New Delhi.

Couple of things. much of the above is actually installed in the latest P-3C variants.

The nature of all of the equipment means that the P-8I indeed cannot securely network with IN assets such as Kamov helicopters or share data with Russian ships.

The PN tender was for a twin-engine jet to serve as the platform for a LRMPA capable of AShW, ASW, and ISR/ISTAR. The PN's MTOW requirements were a bit off, so I think they're trying to keep the chosen aircraft under wraps for now.

A320 would be a good option. Main PIA Hub at Karachi has maintainence and simulator for these. Spares are easy to come by and non US plane. In fact Germany and France are looking at Airbus A320 to replace French Atlantic 2 and German P-3C. Makes sense Pak jumps into this programme.

Potentially, but I'm not sure the EU wants us around. They wouldn't consider our MRTT requests, so a more lethal asset like an LRMPA might not fly with them.

After this upgrade, will it be able to carry any light torpedoes? Like p3s.

Sea Eagle MPA, Erieye, AW139 and SPADA 2000 SAM are lethal too.

Yea, but you can double most of those for non-lethal ops like HADR, SAR and ISR (Erieye, AW139). The Italians are cool with selling us stuff they directly control -- e.g. Spada 2000 (or even CAMM-ER). But Airbus DS involves Italy, Germany, France, etc together. We'd need all of them onboard, or at least not against us.

I can give you the RAS-72, for sure. But still, the RAS-72 wouldn't compare against an A320 LRMPA -- the latter would have a much higher payload (esp. via internal bay for torpedoes), range and speed.

Money talks, any A320 MPA but would not enhance our capability massively or give us a new capability, and right now Airbus is desperate for sales and Germany already upgrading our ATR-72s, I would not be surprised at all if we let the Germans do the work on the A320s (if we buy them) and give them some sort of systems compatibility with the ATRs, then maybe we can make them lethal with Pakistani/Turkish missiles. Dutch sold us Corvettes recently that we are outfitting ourselves. It's money that has been the main factor
