In India their most productive region is the ganges river valley
the bulk of their population lives there
in any place where you have such a high population growth and a very low volume of capital supply
you have all the ingredients for poor infrastructure, low skilled labor and a stagnation in growth of standard of living
the economic growth india is very state specific and the overall population has seen very few benefits of this growth
india and pakistan are both stuck in a low income low growth trap
this is not new the indian subcontinent has been like this for centuries since the times of the hindu kingdoms
