China hits record trade surplus every passing month, US just pays more money to buy Chinese products from the third countries, it makes US even more stupid.

Not really. Putting tariffs on Chinese goods improves the incentives for others to start ramping up their processes to provide alternative sources for such goods. Gradually, this can only be a good thing for USA. Quite logical, actually.

The middle class stat is not telling the whole picture

It's not like all 11% are poorer falling out of the middle class.
