Pakistan may study other fighter options as US asks Pakistan to make full payment for F-16 purchase

Aziz said Pakistan valued the F-16s for their effectiveness, but said that they could be replaced by JF-17 Thunder jets in its anti-terrorism campaign.

Aziz is contradicting himself, If F-16s can be replaced by Jf-17s , then why aren't they, afterall its an in-house production?

Or If Pakistan is so desperate for F-16s and F-16s only then why not shell out measly 700 million for them or is it PAF has only $ 270 million left in its kitty?

Isn't this begging bowl humiliating? Blowing hot and cold because another nation's tax payers refused to subsidize your purchase.
Pak is not getting charity from USA as thousands of Pak people have shed their lives for achievement of US objectives in the region similarly mainly fundamentalists are also hitting Pak people/ infrastructure due to US support.
Most of Pak military resources are concentrated towards war on terror ,indirectly Pak is securing US objectives and their citizens so handful of 4th gen F16s don't worth much.

Now taking this opportunity as blessing in disguise Pak should get Jets from Russia.

I think Typhoon will be the best choice if they're not going for J10 but don't you think other nations will have an objection on the sale of typhoons to Pakistan? as if i am not wrong Germany objected on the sale of subs to Pakistan.

No problem bro, the primary entity behind the Typhoon is the UK, with whom Pakistan has excellent links. Germany was fine with the submarine sale, again, it was funds. Years back when PAF pilots tested it, they literally fell in love with the plane and talked about its ease of use, advanced package and how it can be easily integrated. I don't see any reason, past funds why the PAF cannot go for this option.

If a deal has to go through for EFT then it would be through Italy because that is where Pakistan can get more stuff for the Navy and Army.

Pakistan would like to get replacement of the ageing Tariq Class and Agosta 70's along with Puma Helicopters for the Army.

A package might also include goodies for the JF-17 and some goodies for F-22P's.

All these might be possible if the deal is tailored for 5 - 7 years. the current requiremen for PAF is 12 sqd. so if they are to be equipped with let say 6 EFT and 6 JF-17 that 108 + 2 (reserve) = 110 aircraft each.

If PAF also decides to replace the the Non MLU'd F-16 then add about 20 to the order. That is around 220-240 aircraft. With this kind of numbers the French might also try to jump in because till now the Indians are just lingering on with the procurement of Rafales. Even if the Indian's do sign the deal for 36 Rafales still the French would like to sell PAF some aircraft because what they are going to get is more $$$.

PAF might be given a production facility for such a big order because the Indian MRCA was of 120-130 aircraft.

More importantly Typhoon is good enough to the beat sh** out of Rafale.

Actually, that is true for India too - it will only be allowed to buy certain types of planes, with certain types of avionics, and only with certain types of weapons. Nothing new here for both Pakistan and India.
Other than the F-22, what plane is off limits to India sir?

OV-10 Bronco.

AC-130 and electronic attack variants like EC-130J, B series heavy bombers, RW-135, JSTARS, U-2... do we have to go on?

Even versions of commonly exported items like the UH-60 have been bared from export. The EH-60s an example of this:

There's a lot they wont offer to anyone and many are banned for export by US laws, which aren't being changed for India's sake.

Just out of curiosity and to quantify, if there was a number to know the worth?

These aren't exported to any nations (in the case of the the EW planes) and those other systems on this list that are exported are only done so to the closest US client state. If India wanted such systems the US would be happy to sell them but what that would be required of India in return make such a scenerio impossible as India's own internal political discourse (and public) would never allow it.

US politics revolves around MONEY spent for Public welfare is nt it
whether it is Affordable College education ; or Infrastructure to create more jobs

If you waste money for BAD allies ; it will become an electoral issue

1 It will be called a WEAK foreign policy
2 American people are very conscious of how their TAX dollars are being spent or wasted

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Once it becomes Clinton VS Trump ; formally and officially
FOREIGN POLICY DEBATES will start
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have followed US presidential elections from 2000 AD onwards
and seen and heard all debates

You are talking in the aggregate. I'm talking about a specific deal. Given the lack of US media coverage on the F-16 deal, I find it difficult to see it as a political issue.

I agree with that foreign policy will be an issue in the general election, but this still a few months off and this while F-16 issue may not be even an issue by then.

If you knew that then why'd you ask such an asinine question:disagree:?

There are limits to what the US will sell, from platforms to the goodies packed in them.

If India wanted such systems the US would be happy to sell them

Would they? Do we know that? Has there been an inquiry for them? Or is this just wishful thinking.

India is becoming a valued partner for the US, but there are obvious limits to it and these prevent the US from gaining a Japan or Australia-like trust of India with its best exportable gear.

You need better relations first, and from what I've seen on this forum, people are resistant to that. Fortunately for both sides, this forum and its opinions mean. sh*t in the real world. Export laws though remain a hindrance.
