Pakistan main mehengai nai awaam kee kamar tor di hai... Aakhir iss ka zimidaar kon hai? Must watch

It is basically just propaganda by the incumbent Government;

It is a good suggestion to build bases and local industries, however all the machinery and most of the raw material will still have to be imported. Consider Nutella as an example, once you have imported the machinery to make Nutella, you will still need to import major ingredients/raw material such as Palm oil, Hazelnuts, Cocoa, Vanillin etc.

Furthermore, with the increasingly damaging devaluation of rupee, production cost will also go up as cost of labor and utilities, such as gas, electricity etc. are all going up and will continue the upward trend.

The right thing would have been to discourage import of luxury items but keep the USD low for establishment of industry, we had a golden opportunity to establish industry especially SME thanks to the previous Government which had invested heavily in power generation and transport infrastructure. But it is a futile exercise with the USD @ 165, there is NO WAY to compete with international brands with such a weak rupee until and unless we have a well established industry and even then only if we are self reliant on most of the raw material.
Here he go again.. bugzy imran..so Chinese dont import raw materials. German dont Japanese dont Malaysians don't...you mean we should not start Manufacturing just because we have to buy minerals raw materials from abroad

Unfortunately, importing Italian Marble, German Grohe sanitary fittings, Italian Ariston water heaters, Land cruisers and other exorbitant luxury items are more important to the ruling elite, the avg joe has this option shoved down his throat.

Some one needs to do an OP on how all these items are imported without tarrifs, or at off the book pittance.

I doubt the cost of those luxury items would be more than USD 500 Million a year. Top 10 of our import items, almost 75% of our total imports, are:
  1. Mineral fuels including oil: US$17.1 billion (28.4% of total imports)
  2. Machinery including computers: $6.3 billion (10.4%)
  3. Electrical machinery, equipment: $4.3 billion (7.2%)
  4. Iron, steel: $3.7 billion (6.1%)
  5. Organic chemicals: $2.8 billion (4.6%)
  6. Vehicles: $2.6 billion (4.3%)
  7. Plastics, plastic articles: $2.5 billion (4.1%)
  8. Animal/vegetable fats, oils, waxes: $2.1 billion (3.5%)
  9. Oil seeds: $1.5 billion (2.4%)
  10. Cotton: $1.3 billion (2.1%)
When I see that list I realize that other than cotton, there is nothing else really that we CANNOT import because of availability of local alternatives, we simply don't have any.

As per the OP IMF wants to strengthen the world economy - exactly what Reza Baqir did with Egypt, before taking over SBP.

Secondly, non essential items with high tariffs, should be temporarily banned till the economy strengthens.

I think Reza Baqir wants to privatize the state owned properties and sell it to SELECTED friends of GoP.

They are smuggling away the marble and wood from the country while importing the same thing.

Nobody is willing to take the responsibility of the economic disaster

There is a difference, all those manufacturing power houses established industry before they devalued (or rather, set the correct cost of their currencies). We should have done the same, imported machinery and bulk of raw material, established our industry and started replacing imported goods with equally high standards of locally produced goods and finally exporting.......after that we could have determined the exchange rate in our favor by devaluation.

What is the answer of PPP & PMLN on the above items in red.

Nicely explained and narrated. We need these kind of peeps to inspire us and to start making the changes instead of blaming eveyone else but ourselves. Promote local industry and avoid imported brands. Brands may give you some kind of false sense of having a social status or sophistication but infact you are just a disappointment for your country for chosing foreign products over your local produce.

Imposing very high tariff on daily consumables is a bad move. This is a protectionist policy of last century which encouraged crony-capitalism in garb of patriotic juche. Populace will be forced to consume sub-standard stuff, while select few will rule the market.

Nutella; let alone chocolate spread isn't a daily consumable of the masses in Pakistan sorry to say. Your argument is invalid. I'm pretty sure >70% of Pakistan's population can do without gorging on it at breakfast.

Forget about all the fuss of currency devaluation, circular debt, the deficit of trade etc. In simplest of terms, we the common people of Pakistan are responsible for the seemingly unstoppable inflation and price hikes.

Going back a few decades, you will find that most populous areas were the villages which still is the case but recently, the more flux of people towards the urban areas has caused a huge problem.

In the past almost every household in rural areas was mostly associated with agriculture in one way or another so apart from a few industrial commodities for consumers like soap, detergent, tea, spices, medicine etc. they were self-sufficient in producing most of the items for daily life consumption including, meat, dairy products, fabric, wool, leather, wood etc. They would lead a simplistic life with the minimalist approach and enjoyed impeccable health and longevity.

Commodities produced by the people of rural areas and supply in the market (high supply) combined with lower demand had kept the prices of most consumer products very low for a long time. We even enjoyed a surplus of agriculture yield from time to time and export of said surplus was a source of increasing valuable forex reserves. Then education reached them and in a quest for higher education and "dream" of a better life, people of rural areas decided to move to cities. Instead of using that education to improve their villages, farming and producing goods (commodities of value) they simply quit and preferred to stay in cities to do white collar jobs to earn more money (medium of exchange with no value itself) and in the end, everyone ended up with more worthless money and now the market has fewer commodities to offer in exchange for said worthless money. We are barely able to meet our own needs let alone export some stuff. Supply is less, demand is high and we still think earning more worthless money will solve our problem instead of producing things of worth.

Don't even get me started on PPP and PML wasn't too different. The only difference b/w PPP and PML is that PML Ministers were atleast half competent whereas PPP Ministers were the most incompetent. And that they are all corrupt, PML, PPP, PTI, MQM, JI, JUI etc.

I cannot understand why we were importing steel and iron when we already have a steel mill which goes in deficit and loss each year. We must have pumped atleast USD 15 Billion in our steel mill in the last decade and still we are importing steel and iron. It could also be my lack of understanding and maybe we import steel which we are either not competent enough to manufacture or are not allowed to produce (eg. Chassis of cars assembled in Pakistan by Suziki, Honda, Toyota etc.)

Who guaruntees quality of foreign products? For decades people across Europe were sold horse meat as Beef. The same authorities who failed in Europe fail regularly in Pakistan.

Best to buy organic if you want to be sure. There is a business opportunity here - farmers markets in cities.

I wonder how things are in Pakistan but in my opinion in the absence of water tight regulations & enforcement, " Organic' is a big rip off. Its become a tool to charge more for the same product with no assurance that the buyer gets the value for the extra money paid or if " organic' is truly organic.

You're right. It's very difficult in such a dodgy environment. Business people make/sell do-numbar items and pay regulators to look the other way.

Who guarantees quality of "Made in Pakistan" products ? Why should consumers be forced to buy sub standard products ?
Oh you Indian.. it is call sacrifice for your coming generations and for sure quality is important.. you have Pakistani football surgery tool.. fans cables cotton I mean many things we have
