Pakistan Lost $50 Million From Airspace Restrictions: Minister

More
BY SYED RAZA HASSAN

KARACHI, Pakistan (Reuters) - Pakistan's aviation minister on Thursday said that his country suffered loses of over eight billion rupees ($50 million) from airspace restrictions imposed since February which affected hundreds of commercial and cargo flights.

Pakistan closed its airspace after an attack by a Pakistan-based militant group in Indian-controlled Kashmir led to clashes between the nuclear-armed powers, adding flight time for passengers and fuel costs for airlines.

“Over eight billion rupees worth of losses have been suffered by the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority,” Ghulam Sarwar Khan, Pakistan’s aviation minister told a press conference in Karachi.

“We don’t have exact figures of losses of their (Indian) civil aviation authorities but its more than ours,” Khan added.

Pakistan reopened its airspace to international civil aviation on Tuesday.

“Airspace restrictions were from both sides and it has been lifted by both countries,” the minister said.

WONDERFUL!

So india lost more than $1 billion USD from our air space ban we inflicted on them. While we just lost $50 million.

Pakistan Airspace Shutdowm Costs Over 6500 Crores to Aviation Industry: Outlook India

To put it in perspective, we didn't only humiliated india militarily for their air incursion and killing few of our trees, we also caused them 20x more damage in economic loss in aviation sector.

Damn man, Pakistan literally owned india mercilessly in every possible way (militarily, PR standpoint, diplomatically, and now even economically)

Why did Pakistan open the air space?

How much more humiliation, beatdown, and punishment do you want us to inflict on poor indians?

Let's take a quick fact-based review of what happened.

Pakistan accused of ISI asset bombed and killed indian 40+ soldiers and injured almost 100 in one strike.

india was embarrassed and yearned for revenge. After almost a month, it launched an aerial incursion into Pakistan, Pakistan Air Force intercepted the indian incursion, indians launched their payload (BIG MISTAKE! Should not have done so if you didn't want the humiliation and beaten down coming your way)---the payload did not hit the intended target and fell in open. indian air incursion hit few trees with no casualties (as confirmed by every single international source and satellite imagery analysis by Think Tanks, Defence Analysts, Foreign Policy Councils etc)

In return, Pakistan announced beforehand that it will be extracting revenge for indian incursion. Within hours of that announcement, PAF launched six airstrikes across indian territory, including one air-strike on indian brigade headquarter, Air strikes were kept symbolic to demonstrate PAF's resolve and capability without causing further mass casualities on indian side. Indian military, humiliated and embarrassed at this point, tried to intercept Pakistan Air Force (PAF) but PAF shot down responding indian jets without sustaining a single loss of its own, captured indian air force's shot-downed wing commander and paraded it on national TV causing national humiliation to india, indians were SO panicked during the ariel confrontation that they shot down their own helicopter and further killed 7 military personnel of their own :omghaha:, as PAF was busy owning junk indian military yet again in the air. Pakistan then subsequently inflicted air space ban on india and caused indian aviation almost $1 billion in losses!

The world and international/neutral media reported on the confrontation with following headlines:

Indian claims of an airstrike in Pakistan increasingly look like an embarrassing failure: Business Insider

After India losses Air Battle to Pakistan, Questions Arise about its 'Vintage' military: NY Times

Images of indian pilot in Pakistan's custody after getting shot down by Pakistan Air Force were seen by tens of millions of people globally....

Now after ALL OF THIS, you really ask why Pakistan opened its airspace? Bas kar paglay, rulaye ga kya? We humiliated you more than enough.

Time to return to normal as india accepted its defeat/humiliation and did not escalate further...

So its business back to normal and lets continue the normal lives. That's why Pakistan opened its airspace...

Pakistan military made us SO proud though! Couldn't ask for anything better :pakistan::pakistan::pakistan::pakistan::pakistan:

So you opened the airspace not to trouble India anymore?

The excuse to keep it closed had worn thin. But certainly for every dollar Pakistan lost it inflicted 10 times plus more on India.

It might be true. But the ability to bear the loss must also be taken into account.

Just have a look at air routes and traffic flow. India blocking Pakistan only had effect on flights to South East Asia which does NOT form the core Pakistani air traffic. On the contrary Indian flights to Europe, USA, Middle East, Afghanistan which form the largest % of Indian traffic were crippled by Pak air closure.

But the ability to bear the loss must also be taken into account.
Even in difficult times you know $50 million is small change.

Not really. Aviation terms was apparently just roughly double (around 50 million for Pakistan, 100 million for India)....which is more impactful on Pak aviation sector given India's is like 14 times the size.

If we look at market cap of the respective stockmarkets, Pakistan suffered massively (among other things happening at same time) from FPI/capital flows drying up due to investors being wary compared to India where things were pretty stable. This potentially cost Pakistan billions of dollars (exact number we will have to wait for the year to finish for analysis), billions it will now have to extract via extra domestic taxes given the forex scarcity for debt repayment.

. .
Why did Pakistan open the airspace?
Demand was for IAF to withdraw from forwards bases
They initially refused and than accepted and pleaded to open airspace
Always happens the same way..india first closes the airspace than pleads to open it
