Pakistan looks to Block 3 variant of JF-17

Whatever the causes of the delays are, one can be pretty sure that the results will be satisfactory, be it for Block 2, block 3 or above that.
This is no small endeavor, patience is required, since the JF-17 is going to be the backbone of PAF as well as for many other countries in the near future.

It seems that the last incident of JF-17 crash in October 2014 has further delayed the block-ii project.

Enclosed Weapons pod would be a better option. An IWB would require a complete redesign.

The pic itself would require a complete re-design, nose section, air intakes, gear bays, twin tail.... there is hardly anything left that would remain original. Not to mention that without solving the main issue of increased internal fuel capacity, the whole re-design or even weapon pods don't add any advantage. So why go to all these trouble, when you could go for J31 as well? Same engines, same radar, same avionics and weapons, but actual stealth design capabilities.
For JF17, RAM, composites and CFTs / additional internal fuel tanks are the main potential to reduce the RCS, besides that freeing hardpoints from fuel tanks, will increase it's load capabilities.

I would only add that it should have 11 hps instead of 9 and if internal weapon bay then its superb

Its a good thing that PAF/Chengdu have taken the block 3 to the drawing board so with at least 2.5 - 3 years time period at their hands...
i am no engineer but have been an avid follower of jets on this and multiple other forums... i honestly believe that the nation will be well served if the ppl in charge should think slightly outside the box and change the aircraft on the same lines as F-16 was changed to F-1. All we need is a slightly improved wing area giving the plane more internal fuel along with 2 hard points thus also decreasing the drag by taking out the multiple racks.
The same way the nose or the front of the aircraft can be slightly changed to give it room for an aesa and also give it a smaller footprint on radars... this would offcourse mean addition of carbon fibers at areas to improve the weight to thrust ratio and also to strengthen the areas of stress.
All this definitely depends upon the availability of RD93MA or the Chinese variant which should not be a bottle neck as the same approach was used while designing the airframe initially. Avionics + engine can and will improve with time we just need to ensure that airflow/current dsi will be adequate for the newer engines.
in my humble opinion 3 out of the 4 changes (internal fuel, hard points, Aesa and engine) if made will make this aircraft a very very potent machine and given in the hands of the right pilot it will be a lethal deal.

At this year's Dubai Airshow officials from the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) in Kamra discussed their plans for a future Block 3 variant of the Chengdu JF-17/FC-1 fighter now that the Block 2 model has a mature configuration. The aircraft is produced jointly by the PAC and Chengdu Aerospace Corporation in China.

"The Block 3 aircraft now exists in the form of a conceptual design and a list of mission requirements," said one of the senior Pakistan Air Force (PAF) officers assigned to the programme, "but no concrete decisions have been made about the choice and configuration of the onboard systems for the aircraft."

However, the reported maximum engine thrust figure of "88.29 kn" or 9 tons, does conform with statements made by Chinese officials to IHS Jane's at the 2015 Paris Air Show that China was testing a new 9-ton medium thrust turbofan on the Chengdu Aircraft Corporation FC-1/JF-17 fighter. Thought to be an improved version of the WS-13 Taishan turbofan reportedly developed from the Russian Klimov 8.29-ton thrust RD-33 turbofan, it will power versions of the single-engine FC-1 and the twin-engine FC-31.
