What's new

Pakistan is testing a new monster piece of mobile artillery next to the Indian border.

Please. Yugoslavia doesn't exist. It was a Serbian system which broke its axles during tests. South African howitzer hasn't been tested, not at least from my knowledge. The French Cesar hasn't even arrived yet!
Why South African system not tested yet ?

if the axel broke then why not test the gun on a different chassis, from germany or bulgaria?

wow its mounted on a vehicle that means its fast moving as compared to traditional howitzers.

.
so when will the final decision be made on who the winner is?

personally id go Serbian and then jump to their new alexsandra gun.
That would be a perfect ploy i would say :P

No idea on the time line. We are in second phase of evaluation however. I mean, the gun was tested, sent back and it back for testing again.

System being used along the LoC: Army Chief
The Army on Thursday received an indigenous weapon locating radar (WLR), named Swati, from the DRDO. The organisation also handed over a Nuclear, Biological and Chemical (NBC) recce vehicle and NBC treatment drugs to the Army.

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said the export potential (of the WLR) would be explored only after the Army’s requirement is fulfilled.

“You know Swati has done its job well when the LoC is devoid of any heavy artillery,” he observed.

Army Chief Gen Bipin Rawat called the system a success. “It is being used extensively along the LoC by us,” he stated.

Swati has a range of 50 km, which brings all artillery guns presently in service worldwide under coverage. Four systems are currently in operation and another 30 are on order for the Army.

Talking about the capability of the system, a senior Defence official said it was pressed into service along the LoC last year. The WLR played a major role in suppressing their [Pakistani] fire, he added.

The WLR Swathi provides fast, automatic and accurate location of enemy weapons like mortars, shells and rockets in its 50 km range, a senior DRDO official said.
