What's new

Pakistan is testing a new monster piece of mobile artillery next to the Indian border.

Worth noting that Yugoimport-SDPR (Serbia) revealed the Aleksandar SPH a few weeks ago, a fairly upgraded variant of the NORA B-52 they had sent for trials in Pakistan. Any chance the feedback from the trials could have gone into the Aleksandar?

I do not yet have the full technical details of the said trials. But I know for sure that none of the participating contestants were shortlisted or approved for further evaluation.

Speaking generally, but do canned contestants get a chance to try again with a new model? If the first three didn't pass it basically means that the process hasn't gotten to the next step anyways.

@Arsalan remember i told you guys i spotted a Truck mounted Artillery last winter in Rawalpindi cantt?? ---- it was this beast ------
Yup!
We figured that out back then as well! NORA was in Pak for trials, then went back, ONLY TO RETURN AGAIN. What you saw was that RETURN! :) The rumors are that NORA B-52 is being preferred over the other choice T5-52 from South Africa. Also that it is most likely going to be a direct purchase with some little work done locally (not that we will be making them from scratch at HIT). Lets see!
I guess we will official confirmation only when these are INDUCTED :P

Well generally speaking a Technical Report from ITD Directorate at GHQ lists the shortcomings of a system at the time of its field and technical trials. Such shortcomings, if in a great number, render the failure of the system. Most certainly the manufacturer can remove the shortcomings and offer again the equipment for trials but at the same time cost of such modifications is simply not worth the effort etc especially in such complex artillery pieces.

The final or original requirement is ABOVE 350 (some claiming it to be around 500 units). However the rumors are that the initial procurement will be for a batch of 120 off guns and then we will go on from there.

Plus the Chinese AH4 is NOT a copy of M777. It is an ultra light howitzer but that do not means it is a copy of US gun.
We currently do not have any plans to go for that system. I will say that we should look at South African G7 light weight gun. Though it is 105mm but we can make an exception because at 3800Kg this is an option that we can transport by helicopters and because even being 105mm its parameters are quite similar to those of a 155mm.

Please. Yugoslavia doesn't exist. It was a Serbian system which broke its axles during tests. South African howitzer hasn't been tested, not at least from my knowledge. The French Cesar hasn't even arrived yet!

Pakistan Army tested these 'shoot-and-scoot' systems from Yugoslavia, South Africa & France. All of them failed during the trials. So the project is back to square one
